We went to Lima with a party of 10 to celebrate a graduation from WSU. The ceremony ended a bit earlier than expected, so we called to see if we could arrive sooner. They told us no, as the room wasn’t ready and they were busy — which was understandable.
We arrived at our original reservation time of 7:45 PM. Only five of us were seated initially, but the server did not bring any water until our full party arrived. Although we had been told in advance that we would have a private room, we were seated in the open dining area instead. While this wasn’t a major issue, it was disappointing and confusing given what we had been promised.
Drinks and appetizers were served in a timely manner, but we waited nearly an hour for our entrées. At that point, service and communication went down hill. When we tried to speak to the manager about the delay, he walked away to attend to Cartrina’s table — the same party that ended up being seated in the room we were originally supposed to have. It was frustrating to feel dismissed when all we wanted was someone to acknowledge the situation.
Our server only checked on us once. When asked about our food, he rudely replied, “It’s gonna be a hot minute,” and then disappeared. He didn’t refill our drinks — that task was left to a busser who only spoke Spanish, making it unclear who was actually assigned to our table.
The food was extremely pricey considering the poor service. We also had issues with our orders. Two people in our group ordered the Taypa Noodles, which are supposed to come with quail eggs — but neither dish included them. When we told the server, he brushed it off and said, “They should be in there; you just have to dig.” My brother searched his dish and still couldn’t find any, and my aunt confirmed hers didn’t have any either. Eventually, the server went back to the kitchen and brought out quail eggs separately.
I ordered the Ají de Gallina but only ended up eating the rice. When we asked for a to-go box, mine didn’t have a lid, so I left the food, and my mother-in-law took the container instead. We voiced our concerns to the manager again. He offered to remove the tip and give us a $75 credit for a future visit. We declined the credit, as we most likely won’t be returning, and asked him to apply it to the current bill, which he did.
To make things worse, Cartrina Romain’s party — who arrived after us — received the private room we were originally promised. The manager and staff were noticeably more attentive to them. I can only hope they didn’t serve the Ají de Gallina leftovers from my plate that Cartrina happened to mention...
Read moreThe two appetizers we had were phenomenal! The octopus and the scallops. Highly recommend those! As for the service, we have to focus on that aspect a lot if we want this place to last. I gave 5 stars because I truly hope it succeeds! But we sat there for almost 10 minutes before the server came to us. We ordered apps, they made it in a timely manner from when we took our order. The problem was that no one ever came to take our order. It wasn't until my wife went to the car until they noticed to come back to the table, 30min after appetizers and 45min after sitting at our table. I sat with an empty water glass for about 30min, while asking 3 times for water, I finally got it filled by the woman bussing tables. I don't think understaffed is the correct term, because the staff was mainly just standing around (except for the woman bussing tables and I assume the kitchen staff). Every other great restaurant in Wichita is attentive to the table, fills water without having to ask, greet you immediately upon seating, check on how your appetizers are, take your orders for your meal without waiting around trying to make eye contact with the staff. Honestly I wish this place the best of luck, and hopefully this was not the A team for wait staff (it was 6:30pm on a Saturday) and hopefully this is not a common occurrence. We just have to step it up and focus!! You got this. I know you can get it done, and I know it will be...
Read moreThis restaurant hits all the points. From making the reservations, explaining the menu, delivering DELICIOUS food, and having a beautiful atmosphere. Lima Nation is a very tasty and awesome service restaurant. The ceviches that we ordered were fresh and have a good portion size. The main courses were amazing! Not greasy, not small, not under cooked. Everything that they made was beyond fantastic. Their dessert is unique, light and the perfect amount because all their other food will definitely fill you up and there will be left overs!!
Their alcoholic beverages were well made. Not too strong and well balanced with the liqueur and juice combined. My friends and I tried each other's drinking every single one of them were spot on tasty!
The manager checked in and on us and interacted with us. You know they have a passion for what they do and what they strive for because they care to interact with their customers and wanting to know feedbacks. There was not a single wrong thing that they did. Everything was a wonderful experience!
My girlfriends and I did a Galentine here and we were all raving about how we NEED to come back here again and again!!
Compliments to the chef, waiter, bartender and owner. You guys were amazing! I'm definitely referring others to you guys!! Wichita is lucky to have this...
