Terrible service, awful food! The "ladies" behind the bar were rude, service was horrible, food was mediocre at best. The oysters had obviously been shucked hours (more likely days) earlier and had been sitting on trays in a fridge. Definitely not fresh. Tasted like they had been doused with tap water. They had no flavor. First time in our lives my husband and I left uneaten oysters at the table. It took over 45 minutes for my mother's meal to arrive. It too was lousy. Cold fried oysters. Undercooked onion rings with raw batter still coating the onions. The worst part of the experience though was the service. As other reviewers have commented, the staff behaves as if they are doing you a favor. You will never see a smile or be treated courteously by any of the servers. They all seem like they really hate being there and that it is somehow your fault. Based on the various quotes and quips hung on the walls around the bar, the wait staff apparently think it's "cute" to treat customers rudely. I can assure them, there is nothing funny about really lousy service. I have had great meals at dive bars. This certainly wasn't one of them. We will not be returning. P.S. Just googled Oh Shucks. Not the least bit surprised to have found this news article about them titled "Wildwood oyster bar reopens after being shut down over failed health inspection". Yet another reason to...
Read moreI don't know what happened to "The Soup Nazi" after Seinfeld went off the air, but his wife is managing O'shucks Oyster Bar. Although there were multiple empty tables, we were told that the 2 of us could only sit at the bar or the one empty high top table for 2. We asked repeatedly if we could sit at one of the regular tables, because the high top was uncomfortable.
So 10 minutes after taking the high top, they seated a couple at one of the lower tables, right next to us no less. Once again, we asked for a low top table, but we were told that they couldn't sit a couple at a larger table. When we pointed out the couple sitting at a regular table next to us, the manager responded that the woman had a "medical condition" that prevented her from sitting at a high top.
At that point, I was ready to leave, but my wife had a headache from low blood sugar and needed to eat something. So we ordered a tuna salad salad. The food was OK. After all, how can you screw up tuna salad?
The icing on the cake was the hip hop music that started playing over the P.A. system even though the majority of the customers were senior citizens. I can only assume that the music was intended to drive out the customers as soon as they...
Read moreO'Shucks is the place to go when you're tired of tourist ridden Florida and want a place to eat where the locals go. Here's a fine little restaurant that has oysters, raw or lightly fried, on special every Wednesday. That's the reason I went while others had the wonderful fried native shrimp. They also have dollar drafts of Coors to enjoy with whatever homemade locally sourced seafood you choose. The parking lot is unpaved, the building is nothing fancy and the style is pure native Floridian. My goal was to have the oysters with an O'Shuck's draft and listen to friendly conversations around me. Hearing about bass boats, fishing, and pickup truck comparisons was a welcome change from tourists complaints and adventures. We chose to eat outside under the umbrella on a tidy white round table; we could've been inside but, hey, I'm in Florida in early April and it's a beautiful day. First up - beer. Cold frosty one please. A plate of 12 raw oysters on the half shell is next - perfectly cold, fresh, and served with a tangy homemade seafood sauce. Ah, that was good. Next course is fried oysters with French fried potatoes and homemade coleslaw. Perfect. Desert? Another dollar beer please. Well...
