The Waterfront Grille Food Truck was atrocious! There was no line when me and a friend approached to order. They said it will be a minute, we've got a lot going on. They took my friends order and then told me, I know you were in line and were sorry but were going to have to take a Segway from taking orders right now. We've got a lot going on. We stepped to the side to have a smoke while we waited. The attendant came out with all they had going on and asked us not to smoke there because of the propane tanks, even thought the open flame from their grill was closer to the tanks than we were. I tried a couple more times to order and they finally said it would be 30 minutes before they could take anymore orders. We left and shared the orders my friend got. We came back 40 minutes later and they still weren't taking orders! They are the only food truck at a popular local brewery and they do a piss poor job at serving their customers! I looked forward to a cold beer and food on a beautiful day after working in the yard all day and they absolutely ruined the experience. If I ever go back, I'll bring my...
Read moreWe visited the Jamestown Settlement over the weekend and saw the sign for Billsburg Brewery. We were expecting a brewery focusing on historical brews, and a quick stop as a curiosity. We were very wrong. Pulling in, there was live music, a food truck (The Hungry Pug was great!), tons of outdoor seating, and most importantly, great beer. When we went inside, the bartenders and staff greeted us with big smiles and were helpful and friendly throughout our visit.
The Fly Away IPA was a very clean and hoppy expression of a West coast IPA. The Planet 4 Red Ale was malty, but a little on the hoppy side. Ghost Ship Stout was roasty and toasty. Based on what we tasted, however, their two sours were the standout hits. The Miami Weisse was tart, fruity, and refreshing. My wife, who doesn't like very many beers, loved it. My favorite overall was the Cara Cara to Explain, a hazy sour IPA with Cara Cara oranges. Tasted like a lacto sour to me with some lingering hoppiness and the lovely oranges rounding it out.
This is a must visit when you're in the area, and it would be a great place to spend...
Read moreWent to this brewery after touring Jamestown Settlement. Was really looking forward to it. My wife and I did a tasting and I thought the beer was pretty good for the most part, so not really any complaints there. However, it amazes me how management and workers allow a grown man to run around speaking very loudly and chasing his young kids around the tasting room and outside deck like a child himself, clearly disturbing other patrons. Its a brewery, you shouldn’t bring young kids in the first place and definitely shouldn’t egg them on to run around screaming, and management definitely should’ve put a stop to it, but people are afraid to say anything today. If I was the manager and I told a patron that he needed to calm down and calm his kids down and he didn’t like that, then he’s welcome to leave or be removed. And if he writes a bad review or talks crap to his buddies because he was told not to act like his child, so what. As a manager I would be much more concerned about the 99% of the other patrons. Definitely don’t want to hang around an alcohol-induced man child and his...
