I did not get to see. After the museum i walked the trail to the indian village. At over a 100 yards from the indian village i sparked up a cigarette . Immediately a woman from the museum came to me stating i had to put it out do to health reasons. Now keep in mind they had a bomb fire going. I could not walk through exhibit do to allergies from the bomb fire filling the valley. I spent two days in my room and an emergency visit to ER for eyes swelling shut do to the bomb fire. This museum does not care for safety to customers but only control of paying customers. I spent two days eyes swollen shut an added two days of motel charges on the trip because they can endanger our health with a fire with smoke covering the entire valley but god forbid a cigarette with a filter might endanger someone. I have smoked all my life and never had my eyes swelled shut because the pollution just does not equal or come close to...
Read moreThe James Fort is one of the most fascinating exhibits at the Jamestown Settlement, offering an authentic perspective into the lives on the settlers, ranging from blacksmiths working billets for the visitors, woodworkers, officer’s quarters, and cannons on display, ready to defend the fort.
Each of the actors are friendly, ready to answer questions, and seem to thrive on interaction with the visitors, so I recommend making full use of their knowledge and experience, regardless of how small a question you might have.
Positioned close to the replica village, and the ship museum, it’s easy to imagine the tension and relationships between the settlers and the indigenous people.
Unfortunately, my visit fell on a Sunday and so the fort was a little quieter than usual, but it’s easy to see how impressive the experience would have been during a more...
Read moreOk - this is the STATE side of Jamestown. The actual, original site is on federal land. Both sides are fantastic, however for young ones, this has excellent hands on stations and walk through replicas of native dwellings, ships and the fort. The museum is extremely well done with many artifacts and wonderfully built out exhibits to give visitors a first hand idea how Jamestown, a ship, a street in London, dwellings and much more would have actually looked like. Tickets can be bought online or at the counter. I actually got a Groupon deal for $29 for adults and about $12 for kids. The folks in and around the replicas settlement are so knowledgeable and friendly. Honestly, you learn so many more interesting facts from them than the actual museum. My crew really enjoyed this and made us even more appreciative to live in the...
