UPDATE: I am updating my review to 4 stars due to the owner (Daniel) taking ownership of this issue and discussing my concerns with me in a professional and courteous manner. The others in my party enjoyed their meals and had no complaints. I learned that the non-deveined are not supposed to be served broiled. As the owner stated in his statement below this review. It is served plain and unseasoned unless you ask for it to be seasoned. I did not think to ask, and my server being new did not think to offer. I appreciate the owner taking he time to reach out and discuss this and explain everything. I will give Boathouse another chance and when I do I will update this review again..
Original: My family and I visited the Boathouse for dinner. This was the first time I had come to this restaurant for dinner. My previous experience was with breakfast about two years ago. The level of disappointment that I experienced was shocking given the reputation and location of the restaurant. There were many issues with the meal. The first issue was that the shrimp were served NOT deveined. Every seafood restaurant Deveins its shrimp. To not Devein it is absolutely disgusting. I am so happy I did not order the fried shrimp or else I never would’ve seen this. When I brought this to the attention of management, I was told that’s just the way it is. The next issue I had was the crabcake. While it had a lot of crab meat in it, it did not taste or smell like crab. To verify this was not just an issue that was only occurring to me I passed it to the three other people at the table and everyone agreed it did not smell or taste like crab. The crabcake was extremely oily and had a weird smell. The next issue I had was with the scallops. While they were cooked they had no sear on them, were sitting in oily water with no flavor, there was no seasoning or salt or anything. The pasta salad tasted like pure oregano and really had no vinegar flavor, it was just like oily oregano. The only good thing with my meal was the okra. The only positive thing I have to say is that our server Jackie L. was very nice and attentive. She apologized and even appeared shocked at the shrimp. I do not plan on returning to this restaurant as I feel I wasted a great deal of money ($150 plus) taking my family out. The Wilmington market has plenty of other seafood restaurants that know how to prepare shrimp and scallops. The ONLY reason I am giving two stars is that some of my family members had acceptable meals. Their meals were NOT perfect but...
Read moreMy family and I came to Wilmington for vacation and spent the day at Wrightsville Beach. We came in on July 28th, 2021. After a long day at the beach, we were extremely hungry and I wanted some good seafood, so I looked up different places and found this place. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. As soon as we walked in, the young guy made us feel very welcomed. The young lady that was waiting on us was super nice, patient and extremely helpful. There was 4 of us and we all got different entrees and they were all delicious! The hush puppies that they give you before you get your food are so good and addictive. The only thing I would change is, they need to add seasoning to their fried catfish and shrimp, it's on the bland side. Other than that, everything else was great and they don't need to change a thing. Whenever I come back to Wilmington, I will definitely come back here and I highly recommend this place to others! Just want to say a big thank you to the staff for having us there tonight. We were the last one's in there and they were so nice. As someone who used to be a server, I know what it's like to have people there past closing time, so thank yall so much for being patient. Thank yall for making our vacation more enjoyable and delicious! The dishes we got: -My dish was the fried catfish and shrimp with potato salad and mashed potatoes with gravy (SO GOOD). -Pork chops (grilled) with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. -Steak and Skewered shrimp with corn on the cob with a side salad. -Cheeseburger with french fries and corn on the cob and a side of...
Read moreMy family and I ate here for dinner recently and were mostly pleased with our experience. I will start with we were there for an early dinner however there were 2 very large parties already in the restaurant eating. It took a few minutes to get seated and during our visit our waitress seemed busy with other tables and getting ready for the dinner rush so we did have to wait on refills and attention once or twice. However most of the food was quite good. The hushpuppies as an appetizer were tasty just a bit cold. Our party had the hamburger steak, fried shrimp, calm strips, flounder, scallops and crab cake as entrées. All, minus the calm strips, were fantastic. Everything had lots of flavor and cooked to perfection. The crab cake had tons of flakey crab meat with great flavor, grilled and served with a spicy sauce that added to its flavor. The fried shrimp were cooked perfectly with a nice flavored breading. The hamburger steak was served well cooked with large amount of grilled onions and gravy. The clam strips were the only let down. They over fried, hard and about half were not edible. The sides were pretty good as well. Fried okra had good flavor and appropriate amount of breading. Green beans - couldn't decide if they were fresh or from a can as they had onion in them and tons of flavor. The macaroni and cheese was very tasty as well. I would eat here again and for the price and flavorful food it is well...
