Generally would never write a review like this but my experience here last Friday (February 21) was absolutely horrendous. I was starving and decided to go to k38. I sat at the bar and was already somewhat uncomfy going out to dinner by myself on a Friday. The bartender (long brown curly hair) was so incredibly rude to me the moment I sat down. She wouldn't even acknowledge me at first to the point I had to grab her attention and she snapped at me and said "I'll be with you as soon as I'm able." Mind you all I was trying to ask was if I could get a drink & dinner menu. I ordered a margarita and asked her if I could order food as well. Her response was "what do you want?" I ordered food then asked her if I could get chips and salsa (it's my fav!!) and she said "I'll bring it to you when I'm able." I'm sorry, what!?? I sat there, minding my business, then another employee walked up and handed me my food in a to-go bag? I had a full margarita I still had to finish and never once told her the food was to go. She very rudely said something under her breath to the girl who brought my food out to me. I ate my food as fast as I could, didn't bother finishing my drink, got the check and left. As someone who is from here, K38 has always been one of my favorite restaurants. I left there never wanting to go back. She made me feel so unwelcome and so uncomfortable. Regardless if she was having a bad night, when you're working for tips it's probably in your best interest to be nice to the people who are tipping you. I mentioned this story to friends after leaving, two of which said "I know exactly who you're talking about" which leads me to believe this is a common occurrence for her. Get another job where you don't have to interact with the public if you're that miserable. UPDATE - bartenders name is Ayla & she has major mean...

First time ever visiting a K38. I just figured K38 would be your "run-of-the-mill" Mexican restaurant with burritos smothered in brown sauce with a big blotch of cheese on top. Or, perhaps, a salad made from bagged, shredded lettuce with a tomato wedge on the side. Much to my surprise, K38 is NOT your typical Mexican fare. Our meals were outstanding! My wife had the chicken fajitas with a side of black beans and I had the Island Shrimp Wrap with a side of mixed vegetables: zucchini, onions, peppers. The food came out piping hot! So we were off to a good start. Even my side of vegetables came out hot. In my past experiences ordering vegetables on the side, I'd be ok if they came out lukewarm since they're definitely not worth sending back to the kitchen to reheat. Those vegetables by the way, very tasty and FRESH. In fact, ALL the food seemed fresh and made from quality ingredients. My wrap had firm large fresh shrimp, avocado, and fresh vegetables. Our waiter was attentive without being annoying and cleared empty plates from the table promptly. So glad we tried out K38. K38 will now be one of our favorite places to eat considering the large selection of items on the menu....

I online ordered $80 worth of take out last night for my family. There was a pick up time on the receipt, but I called after a bit to see if they were running on time. The lady on the phone seemed annoyed and refered me to look at the time on the receipt. I explained I was just checking to see if it was accurate. She puts me on hold, goes to check, and as it turns out, it was already ready (20 minutes earlier than the receipts pickup time). When I got there, I waited by the hostess station for a few minutes. No one was there. A few servers walked by and looked at me, but didn't say anything to me. After a bit, a lady with blond hair comes up with a sour face. I told her I was there for the order, and she mumbled something and pointed to a shelf of togo orders next to us. I walk over and look at them, and I ask, do I just take it? She nodded yes. Once I got the food home, it was not good. The blackened mahi was very overcooked and dry. The corn tortilla disintegrated when we picked our tacos up. The corn was soggy. I did like the chips and salsa, though. Overall, I do not recommend ordering takeout from...

UPDATE 4-17: We purchased 4 SoCal Burritos to go-$20 each. I can understand a burrito costing $15-$20 I work in the grocery industry. The burritos we received,, while delicious-“, were worth maybe $5-7each-seriously, imagine you buy four frozen burritos at food lion/those would be way bigger—$80, for four small burritos that should be 3 times larger-it’s insane. Go to Los Portales 3 blocks away-you can get four amazing burritos, chips and guacamole, two margaritas-and with a tip spend less $. I’ve never felt more ripped off in my life. I will NEVER go there again. I even tipped the lady who took my order more than 2 of the burritos were worth. 4-17 lunch-i just bought one from each place cuz this is ridiculous/I added photos-1st is K 38 $20 burrito-the other is place down the street for $13-its almost 3 times the weight, worth $13-maybe even more-to the owner who responded-lol on that response

Independence location- I wasn’t going to write a review but we just can’t get over how horrible the food was. Chips and salsa and a cold beer were the highlights. My husband and I both had tacos- both of us had carnitas- I had the Baja fish taco that was so soaked in oil the corn tortilla fell apart (which living in San Diego we’ve had Baja tacos in Rosarito and Ensenada many, many times and this was not a Baja fish taco- with the exception it was batter and fried) my husband had the Mahi Mahi which was frozen fish and dry, both of us had the refried pinto beans as a side and came out cold… the ENTIRE meal had absolutely no flavor at all. The tacos were served (2) in an augratin dish and were so crowded you couldn’t distinguish what was what. What a disappointing meal- won’t be back and don’t recommend- go to Block Taco instead!

Went on a Tuesday night. Sat at the bar. Had great service from the bartender Sara. Fajitas were on special (chicken, shrimp, or veggie) for half off. I ended up getting shrimp Fajitas for $10. It came with a choice of black beans, refried beans or rice. Flour or corn tortillas. I chose black beans and it comes with tomatoes, cheese and sour cream for your Fajitas. Shrimp Fajitas were delicious. Nice serving of onions, peppers and shrimp. They have a wide variety of bottled hot sauces (mild to hot) to choose from if you're into that. Complimentary chips and salsa of course. If you're looking to pair it with a drink, the Dos Equis Ambar and Lagar were ice cold and delicious at $3 a pint. Overall, great service from Sara, plenty of delicious food and drinks at a reasonable price. Would recommend and go again.
