Almost a year has passed since we last attempted to enjoy Savor for brunch and my wife made the suggestion again to me the other day, stating how much she missed their food. Due to my last review, I was hesitant but had also been in contact with the owner who apologized with sincerity and had invited us back for a much-improved experience. I'm a believer in second chances so I took my own belief and agreed to have Saturday brunch with the family.
FOOD: "For Real" Reuben with upgraded home fries, biscuit with gravy and the Family Tradition Benny. I'm going to let me wife write her own review on Yelp for the Benny, but I can tell you that her eyes lit up as she took the first bite and there was absolutely nothing left over when she finished. I did sample a bite and it was good, I can't lie. The sweet ham was remarkable. Everything we ordered and eaten was delicious, just as I recall, but I want to highlight this Reuben sandwich and their side of gravy. Savor's sawmill-style gravy with sausage is something special with that peppery flavor you typically find in the mountains of TN. And the Reuben? It may not be the most "stacked" in town, but it was uber good and at only $12, it's beyond a value in today's market! The local thousand island and white peppercorn spicy mustard were perfect compliments to the 'kraut and the German rye bread offered that gentle crisp with each bite. The corned beef was cooked well, tender and juicy. The home fries are large and in charge with pleasant seasonings over locally-grown red-skinned potatoes. They're such large chunks of starchy goodness, you can make a meal out of these alone; then call yourself vegan...even if you're not. :). SCORE: 4.7 STARS!!
SERVICE: Our server on Saturday morning was a young lady named Kim, who shined throughout our experience. She was prompt in follow ups, refill offerings and visited our table with a smile each time. I would consider Kim an asset to Savor and hope she's there for a little while longer. I also asked to meet the owner, Danielle, once we were seated so that she could see the face behind all of our digital correspondence. She met us at the table from the kitchen soon after and had a pleasant interaction through and through. Her attitude and drive were magnetizing and I fully appreciated how she took time to come out, personally, to welcome us back and promise a much better dining experience compared to last time. I have no recommendations to give to improve the service of this visit. SCORE: 5 STARS!!
OVERALL SCORE: Almost a year later...thank you for a delightful and pleasing brunch, Savor and staff! You did an incredible job overall and I did miss your food. I'm delighted to know that the issues from our visit before have been addressed and corrected. I'll definitely be back....
Read more6/19/19 0800. This was the 5th or 6th time trying Savor since they opened. I've waited to give a review letting things stabilize thru the normal process of opening a new business. Today, I brought in family from out of town eager to try out the new breakfast joint.
Walked in right at 0800 on a Tuesday (read : not that busy), and waited for menus and drinks. 5 to 10 minutes, no interaction with anyone. No wait staff in sight so the guy working the counter finally brought menus, took drink orders and then attempted to take our orders. Waitress shows up, finishes bringing the drinks, informs us of not having Shrimp and Grits this day, 10 minutes after ordering. So we change one order.
Food shows up at 0835. Both Hash it out Bowls missing Hollandaise Sauce. Scrambled eggs overcooked and rubbery. Pancakes dry and mealy to the point that drowing in syrup did not bring them back. Drinks refilled once, at the end of breakfast.
So we get the check and notice that we were very mildly overcharged for two orders of bacon. $2.85 each instead of the menu-advertised $1.80. No big deal. Waitress was cool about it. What is a big deal is the counter guy (who said he was a manager) stated that the price was actually the charged $2.85 and that the menu was wrong; that it was a typo. They fixed the bill but acted like it was sort of a favor. What service industry planet do you live on? Again, I'm not making a big deal over $2.10 diff but the response was a bit puzzling.
And finally, this entire breakfast experience was going down while the stereo was jamming at 0800-something in the morning to the point that you couldn't have a conversation in a normal voice across the table.
This was a poor dining experience overall and it happened with out of town guests in tow. Not good for me. The Hash it out Bowl, when it has hollandaise and is hot, is really good! This alone got the 2nd star. 1 star if not for that. Again, this was my 5th or 6th time visiting and I waited to give a review. Maybe they'll improve but I'll give it quite a while...
Read moreAmazingGGG! We arrived as the doors opened and so had 4 other vehicles, that alone had spoken volumes! It's clean and quaint with a tent for outside additional seating! The staff was welcoming and up best and quick to get us menu's and our drink order and were told our waitress would be with us! The menu was enough to take in but not over whelming, this is a breakfast and lunch location BUT my gosh the menu reads like a 3 star Michelin restaurant! A board lists all of the local locations they use from seafood, produce, breads and meats to support local vendors and use local grown crops to help local fishermen and farmers is truly amazing, no short cuts to make their meals easier to prepare or serve! Our waitress was super friendly she had a dog named Charlie as well as I 💖 she helped us with any questions but that makes an awesome staff, we placed our order, we watched as other customers food came out, I think they feed GIANTS here pictures to follow! A plate never went back because it was the wrong order or cooked incorrectly, it was fresh and hot and business was picking up quickly! Our food came and there was no mention to the humongous pancake that took up an entire plate or the scratch made biscuit the size of my hand plus the 3 eggs the 2 freshly made pork patties sausage and the wedges of potato called home fries 🙆 this was the Good ol boy breakfast my hubby ordered the biscuit sausage and gravy yep that's 2 hand size biscuits smothered in sausage gravy, he made it through 1, I made it through my eggs a few bites of potato home fries and some pancakes, no sausage no biscuit IT IS A LOT!!! But worth it! I think more than myself and my hubby waddled out of the restaurant 😂 we certainly will be back! Parking is free in their lot but as popular as this place is I am sure it can be full and hard to find a spot...
