I have eaten at this restaurant and at the other location many times. The food is always very good. The reason I have an overall score of two stars is because of the service. After receiving our food, I asked for a side of mayo. I was charged $1.06 for a small amount of mayo—the same amount of ketchup they give you with your food. (see pics). I do not like writing bad reviews, and I do not write them to communicate with the restaurant. I write reviews because I enjoy providing my evaluation for the general public. I understand how difficult the restaurant business is, especially right now with high food prices, so please know I am pro-restaurant. I spend a lot of $ eating out, as you can tell if you follow me. I want the best for this restaurant, BUT charging me $1.06 for a small amount of mayo is an excellent way to lose a customer. In the long run, the restaurant is losing $ by trying to cover the Mayo cost.

I scored the atmosphere a three because this location is not very old, but I think it already needs a makeover; they only had one table set up with chairs to eat outside. That is why I scored a three on the atmosphere. It's not a big deal, just my opinion.

As I said, the food is very good. They do not have a lot of competition in the Wilmington Market. I have a couple of places on my list to go try, but as of now, this is where I go if I want a really good Gyro. The fries are delicious as well. The seasoning they put on them is yummy. I noticed this time that the portion size of meat in the gyro was a lot less, but before, it was a lot of chicken, and now it is portioned right, so that did not matter to me—just an observation. I will go back and hope to have a better experience next time. If so, I will re-score and report back on my experience. I do recommend trying this restaurant if you want a delicious gyro. It...

I never ever leave reviews of places but after today I felt I had to so that no one else has this experience. I went today with my kids to get some lunch after a morning at the beach. It was an overall awful experience. We got there shortly after opening so we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. The man who took our order seemed annoyed. It looked like he was training multiple people and none of them quite knew what they were doing. He rushed us ordering, we barely had time to look at the menu before he was rushing us along to order. I got 2 kids meals, the chicken sharwarma for myself, and the gyro meal for my oldest son. The total was $50, which seemed high for what we got. We waited quite awhile for our food, and when it came it was the biggest disappointment.

The meals were laughable especially the kids. The portions were so small that both my kids were still starving after. I included a picture of my daughters meal. This is a $7 meal? Certainly not. My meal was just not good. The chicken was very fatty and had an odd flavor, then there were the "potatoes", it was literally cold French fries. It did not go well together. It was just not good. My kids chicken did taste good they said but they needed a bigger portion.

We learned our lesson and will not be back. Sucks I spent $50 on such an awful meal.

Me and my family always go to the one on College rd and always have a great experience. They even know us now at that location since we are regulars! First time visiting this location the older guy guessing he is the owner at the register took our order and decided charge us as single items instead of combos to charge us more money as single items. Also tried to sneaked an additional drink for my sons kids meal when it includes it. I went to let him know I got overcharged since we always pay a certain amount at the other location he got upset and said I don’t know how to order and cussed me out when I order the exact same thing every time I go to Peno and never have an issue. He should have said “I apologize you got overcharged let me give you the difference” and thats it! I thought it was just a mistake at first but he got real defensive and rude cussing me out while my family was at the table because he knew exactly what he was doing. It wasn’t even a few bucks it was a meals worth of a difference. Its not really about the money its more about you know what you are doing and if you get away doing this all day long how much money are you collecting from people who don’t know any better. I run restaurants for a living and this isn’t right! CHECK WHAT YOU ARE CHARGED!!!!! Will not be back to...

I have tried several Mediterranean restaurants in the ILM/Wilmington area, but this place was LEGIT! I ordered the Classic Gyro w/fries & the Greek Gyro Platter. The classic gyro was one of the BEST that I have ever had! The ingredients were super fresh as you can see from the photos, and the portions were well above standards! The Greek Gyro platter came with gyro meat, Greek salad, hummus, and tzatziki sauce. I got both spicy and I highly recommend both! Service was polite and fast, and there is plenty of seating if you wish to dine in! If you are wanting Mediterranean with amazing portions & fresh ingredients then give Peño a try!
