Tavern 14 — Restaurant in Wilmington

I went to tavern 14 tonight, Christmas Eve. It was one of the few places. Maybe the only place open on Market. I ordered the cheese steak sub off the menu. The bartender was very sweet, very nice. I asked her when I ordered the cheese steak. If the roll could be toasted toasted, I mean visibly double toasted where you can see that it is toasted. Not just warmed up in the toaster. I emphasized this. She says I got you covered. I'll make sure they do that.

The wait was almost an hour. She kept checking on it and said they were busy with Uber eats. It did not appear that their actual customers inside were the priority, but she did keep a check. When my food came I took about two bites out of the sandwich when she came by to check on me. I told her remember our conversation about the roll being toasted? I open the sandwich up and showed it to her that it was not posted and barely warm and I could pull the bread out showing it was not toasted. She looked at me and was so apologetic. She said that she would put the order back in but might take almost an hour again so she would just give the food to me for free. I was hungry and I said okay. I ate about half of it. I could have finished it but I was just disgusted that it wasn't cooked the way I asked. The steak was absolutely good and the roll was really a fresh roll but it just wasn't toasted and cooked like I like it. I left half of it when she came back to check on me.

She apologized again, said I owed her nothing. Then my second question to her was is this supposed to be smoke free including vape free because there is someone smoking, vaping who quite annoying and causing my nose itch and run where she could see I was using napkins a lot to keep my nose from itching. She told me yes it was against the rules but she pretty much could not do anything about it. I guess the guy over there felt he was entitled. Seem like she did not want to really say anything to him maybe because he was a black.

Even though she insisted on my meal being free, I asked her to charge me for the drink so I can use my charge card to give her a tip.

Well, time to update my review. It's been over a year since we celebrated our one year anniversary here. On September 7, 2024, we got MARRIED here by the owner, Christyne, who is also an officiant. We closed down the bar and had 45 of our closest friends and family attend with an open bar and traditional tavern 14 food and music! And of course Brandy was our bartender! The hostess with the mostest! On 7/31/22, my BF surprised me last night for our one year anniversary. We met one year ago for our FIRST DATE here at Tavern 14 so for our anniversary he wanted to recreate that day one year ago. As if this was not sweet enough, we walk in and he has a table “reserved” for us that he covered in white linen, with a single rose and linen napkins. And then, the SAME awesome waitress (Brandi) that waited on us on our first date brought us over the same drinks we ordered a year ago- Tito’s and pineapple for me and a chilled shot of crown and a modelo for him. And again, if this wasn’t enough, he pre-ordered our dinner, the same diner we ordered a year ago- we split a cheesesteak sandwich and a buffalo shrimp wrap. Felt awkward going in at first but there was a very friendly lady at the bar who was warm and welcoming so I stayed to play. Saw that the racks were all set on top the tables so I asked how the pool worked there. She said the guys who managed the tables just came in and so they leave them there to play so those games were free then it was $1.50. I had never been here so I only saw 3 tables and thought hey 3 free games played them. Then I planned to pay for the rest of my trial of my new cue. At this time the bar tender said "do you plan to play all the tables" and something else regarding that others could play. I had been here under an hour at this point but not a soul was playing.
