I stopped by Tokyo Express Grill for a meal after delivering food with DoorDash for a few hours. Since Japanese food is one of my favorites, I decided to give this place a try.
First impressions: the prices seemed a bit steep for a small restaurant primarily focused on takeout and delivery. They do have some tables for dine-in, but only one other family was dining in during my visit. Most of the foot traffic was for pickup or delivery orders. The prices on the menu were comparable to larger, fancier Japanese restaurants where chefs cook at your table, which felt a little out of place for a casual spot like this.
I ordered the steak hibachi meal, but the price at the register was a couple of dollars higher than what was listed on the menu board. While it wasnât a huge difference, it would be nice if the pricing were accurate so customers donât feel misled.
I requested my steak medium rare, but it was served closer to well done. The portion size was generous, and I had leftovers for another meal, but the steak didnât reheat well and became even tougher.
On the positive side, the staff was friendly, and I could see the chef working hard to get all the orders out. However, for $30, I expected better quality and accuracy. Unfortunately, I feel like I could have gotten a similar or better meal at a competitor for under $20. While I appreciate the effort, I likely wonât be returning...
Read moreMy daughter picked up two meals for my wife and I. My chicken teriyaki and steak were horrible. The chicken had a strange texture. The steak was cut extremely small. Many pieces were slightly bigger than a pencil eraser. We asked for it to be cooked rare on both orders. The steak was cooked to death and dry. My wife's jumbo shrimp was edible, that's about it. The crab ragoon tasted good and the veggies. I looked online at their prices prior to my daughter going in the store to order. They had raised the prices in store. Stay far away from this place. There are so many better choices for Hibachi style...
Read moreOne of the first things I noticed was that the prices on the menu board didnât match what I was charged at the register. This wasnât a small discrepancy â It was $2-5 more per item than advertised. When I asked the cashier about it, she explained that the prices hadnât been updated on the digital board in a while and the reason they donât print paper menus anymore. While I understand that price increases can happen, I expect transparency, and finding out when you pay is not a good...
