Uncle Phil’s Cheesesteaks — Restaurant in Wilson

My wife and I were in Wilson looking for somewhere different to eat. Most of the spots around town were the same ones we have back home, so we wanted to try something new. As we were driving, we spotted a Highway 55 and my wife suggested we just eat there. But right about that time, Uncle Phil’s Cheesesteak popped up on my GPS. I told her, “We can get Highway 55 anytime—let’s try this place instead.” When we pulled up, I’ll be honest—I was a little hesitant. It was attached to a gas station, not much to look at from the outside, and it didn’t seem like there’d be a lot of seating inside (and there’s not), but we decided to give it a shot anyway.

The second we walked in, any doubts I had started fading. We were greeted by two guys who were all smiles, full of energy, and genuinely friendly. It already felt like the right choice before we even ordered. My wife noticed they had lemonade and wanted to try it—and it was delicious. She even joked with the guys, “Who stuck their finger in and stirred this?” because it was sweetened just right.

Now, let me just say… the moment I bit into that cheesesteak, WOW. Hands down, the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had in my life. Bursting with flavor, packed with more meat than you’ll ever get at those other places, and the fries—enough to feed two or three extra people. At first, I thought the prices were a little high, but when I saw and tasted what we got, it was worth every penny. This will 100% NOT be the last time I eat here. Was in the area for a church conference and saw the good reviews on Google. I’ve been looking for good Cheesesteaks in NC but had low expectations for anything outside of Philly. I went to this hole in the wall connected to a gas station and was BLOWN AWAY! Portions were very generous, bread was perfection, the meat was ACTUALLY SEASONED as well. It was so freaking good. The fries and lemonade were on point as well! I had the Western and the original and I gotta tell you, while they were both amazing, the original was perfect for me. It was so good and filling. I went back the next day with more people from my conference and they are from Philly and they had nothing but praise for Uncle Phil’s. The young owner is super nice and just a great hang. We decided to visit Uncle Phil's Cheesesteaks because of the great reviews we kept seeing. We were not disappointed.

This is a "hole in the wall" restaurant in the best way - the kind you fall in love with and return to often. There were seven of us, and we ordered a variety of foods: regular cheesesteaks, a Mexican cheesesteak, chicken tenders, BBQ chicken wings, and a hamburger.

Everyone's food was excellent, and even though it was made to order, we didn't wait more than 15 minutes from the time we placed our order to when it was delivered piping hot to our table.

Service was prompt and friendly. There isn't a lot of seating inside, but our party of seven was able to sit at two tables close together, and several additional tables were available for others.
