Where to start lets just say I understand why this place is always empty now and if I could give it 0 stars I would. So let's talk.
Service: seen our waitress 4 times the entire time we were here 1.5hrs, once to seat us, once to take our order, once to deliver our food, and once to bring our check. Even with me talking loudly about how awful our food was after not being able to wave someone down.
Specials: Huge board with "specials" listed and they sound great but looking between it and the menu all items are same price no difference so not a special.
Drinks: ordered sweet tea got what tasted like coffee with a tea bag mixed in it no sugar
Chips and Salsa: chips are ice cold and stale and after two baskets they charge 1.99, so if you have a large family better portion control. Salsa: amazing one of the best I had just wish I had not stale chips to eat with it.
Food: waited 40mins for ice cold food with no flavor. I can't say much more because I wasn't even able to wave a waitress down to try and get it fixed.
We ended up paying $50 for a meal we didn't eat and left hungry and ended up going to the gas station and got better food.
I'll never ever ever eat here again and if you're in the area I suggest going to a...
Read moreI've tried this restaurant twice now and can confidently say it deserves a solid four stars. I love Mexican food, and moved here from Dallas a few years ago, so I'm pretty picky with places that I find in Tennessee. El maguey has slightly better food than the other big restaurants in town. There is actually seasoning involved, so that's a great start lol. I've seen other reviews complaining about the salsa being bland or the food being cold, but that has not been my experience in the slightest. I like my salsa to have a bit of kick to it And theirs did the job. The food also came out extremely hot and fresh. The chimichangas were delicious. We also tried the classic frozen margarita, and it did not disappoint. Very strong which is the way it should be! They could improve on their atmosphere and service. The server was attentive, but really hard to understand as he mumbled a lot. The main dining room is also strangely bright, like way too much lighting where it feels like you're in a cafeteria. No music at all either so there's a bit of a dead silence. Kind of weird, but it won't stop us...
Read moreI am confused by the low rating reviews. The price is the price and comparable to others in the area. The salsa is the salsa. Ask for the spicy mexican salsa. But watch out because it is spicy. And someone said the rice was yellow. Yes mexican rice is yellowish (sometimes with veggies) or light red, it is not white. The margarita is a fix and/or sluggy machine. You want it done right ask for a skinny margarita and get a premium tequila. But you will have to pay... And some of these people are cheap. I'll keep going. The shrimp enchilada are some...
