I spent Monday at nearby(ish) Falls Mill -- about a 15 minute drive southwest, at least -- and found myself craving coffee. Figured I don't make the drive up to Tennessee often, might as well drive a little further and try someplace new. That place wound up being Walnut Hill Coffee!
This coffeeshop is located in downtown Winchester right on the square. Parking is a little dicey due to that fact, but you're rewarded with a very spacious but still-cozy vibe and a nice view of the square when you enter the cafe.
There are multiple doors into this place and the one I entered in spit me into a hangout/work/study space, which was a tiny bit confusing. I wandered around a bit and quickly found the other room where the ordering counter and menu are located. The baristas were very sweet and patient as I scanned the menu. They serve Piper and Leaf tea, which is a fun connection to nearby Alabama! They have lots of coffee options, some signature lattes, and food -- lots of pastries, and I think a regular kitchen, though it closes an hour before the shop.
I ordered a Havana latte (might be getting the exact name wrong, don't really remember); it came with sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon flavors. I ordered the smallest size and found it was plenty for the price. The coffee had a nice, faintly smoky flavor and was just sweet enough for me. To accompany, I couldn't help but try an enormous espresso crinkle cookie. It was so pretty with the powdered sugar dusted on top! It had a cakey texture and mild but pleasant chocolate and espresso flavors. Lastly, they had a nice station set up with free lemon water, which I gratefully grabbed after a long afternoon outside.
I can definitely see this place as a great spot to hangout, get some work done, or just grab a drink and a snack. I'll likely return if I find myself in...
Read moreThey are trying really hard to be a big city coffee shop but have failed to realize what a big city coffee shop is like. They want to be hip and cool so bad but the coffee isn’t good and the service is very slow. We ordered two drip coffees and we waited for 25 minutes. The coffee tasted like foldgers with Chicoree chips added. They put the milk and cream in the coffee for the customers which is always a fail. Nobody knows how much cream and sugar another person wants. They had five baristas and at the most 25 customers and nobody was getting a drink quickly. The craziest part? They don’t have napkins. I’m not kidding. I don’t know their reason or logic but they don’t. Some water spilled and we asked for napkins to clean it up and they did.not.have.a.single.napkin. Crazy.
This place wanted to look and act like a coffee shop in Atlanta or Charleston, instead they served cheap coffee slowly inside of a beautiful building that doesn’t offer napkins, cream or sugar. I saw them using a torch to add some char to a homemade marshmallow on top of a drink. Took me back to 2012 when that was a thing in Atlanta. Coffee has changed. People don’t want a fancy marshmallow, they want coffee drinks that actually taste good and are served in a timely manner. The management of this restaurant is obviously a little out of touch with what a good coffee shop does these days. Perhaps it’s because the are is a bit far removed from the city, or maybe they are just...

Walnut Hill is an absolute gem! This coffee shop has won my heart with its exceptional offerings and inviting ambiance.
The Cold Brew with sugar-free vanilla is my go-to choice, and it never disappoints. The perfect blend of rich coffee and a touch of sweetness makes it a refreshing treat every time.
But it's not just about the drinks; their ATX tacos are a delightful surprise. A burst of flavor in every bite, these tacos are a must-try, and I find myself craving them regularly.
What sets Walnut Hill apart is its fantastic atmosphere for remote work. Whether you're here for business or leisure, the cozy vibes and free Wi-Fi make it the ideal spot to get things done.
The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall welcoming experience. Walnut Hill has become my second home, and I couldn't recommend it more. If you haven't visited yet, you're missing out on something...
