7/24 - Beautiful evening to sit outdoors overlooking the river. We enjoyed their clams again and Marco's Supreme pizza.
8/23 - Finally sat outside here. Their large patio includes tables in the rear above the river below. The Zuppa di clams were tender with a zesty flavor. House pinot noir was smooth. The veal francese and marsala though pounded fresh in the kitchen, was unfortunately overcooked this time which made it dry, especially the marsala, though the sauce was delicious. Our takeout XL "New York Special" pizza was full of toppings. Full bar not open.
12/31/2022 - Great lunch here today for three. All entrées were delicious: Chicken Parm, Veal Francais and Lobster Ravioli. We brought home two XL pizzas (truly XL, btw) Italiano and pepperoni with black olives, plus 24 Buffalo wings for NYE and the weekend. Pizza was good. The wings and take-home cheesecake could have been fresher. Salads crisp and abundant. The lit fireplace was nice.
Two dinners with accompanying house rolls, salads and wine were what we needed to go somewhere nearby afterwards that does not serve food. The Veal Francese had a light crispy batter on the two cutlets that were sautéed in a butter, lemon and white wine sauce. The Grilled Salmon Giordano was a smaller portion but cooked properly. It seemed to have the same sauce as the veal. Both dishes came with whipped potato and broccoli. The rolls were baked too long. As for the choice of music videos that were playing on the flat screen in the main dining area - not what most customers choosing an Italian restaurant for dinner would be looking for while trying to eat. Quite risqué.
I have to give credit to Noli's for being available to Highland Lake boaters in Winsted for delivery. Beautiful late October day 2022, our group of 8 called in an order for two pizzas - one cheese and one sausage with green pepper. The staff met us at the launch site with the :45 minute timeline they gave us with hot pizzas plus the plastic cups with soda we asked for in addition to napkins and utensils. Delicious. Again, Connecticut has the best pizza. Throw a dart and whether it's on the high end or some place that doesn't look like much from the street, it reigns supreme, nine out of ten times.
4.0. Originally after eating here in early 8/22 I was going to give Noli's a 3.6, but in retrospect, it was a decent meal with a comfortable environment and well-attended service. (Our receipt said this eatery is now "Chef's Bar and Grill," and staff did say Noli's was the name of the former owner) The interior design was appealing. There is a corner fireplace they do fire up in colder months which is always a plus.
Our waitress brought two freshly baked garlic knot rolls which were admirable in taste and texture. Regular drinks from the bar were on the small side but decent. The calamari app was average. Salads that came with our main dishes were inviting because they had a good amount of add-on ingredients - black olives, cucumbers, tomato and white onion.
Mains: Linguine and white clam sauce. It's been awhile since I've ordered this anywhere not because I don't like it but as I've mentioned in previous reviews, clams are quickly and easily overcooked. Out of six fresh clams, two were tough but four were tender. Good odds. I like they combine fresh clams with chopped as this makes the dish complete and with properly cooked linguine overall worth ordering.
Fried clam strips were more like clam bits. Small pieces of clam - probably frozen. Unimpressive. The fries that accompanied this order were, too - a mix of hard cold fries and warm ones. Still, our first time here, there are other items on their menu in the fish category to try: shrimp scampi, salmon and cioppino.
Standard appetizers, pizza, grinders and calzones, mains with chicken, veal and seafood, baked pasta and a ribeye steak all available. It's worth the stop for the quiet attractive atmosphere and the food the kitchen staff does well. There is a large outdoor stone patio, for seasonal weather that looks over the...
Read moreI had such i hopes approaching the booth by the window. The fancy napkins folded like church spires looked too charming to wipe fingers on. Our server was pleasant and I loved every song that was set to a very comfortable level. Abba and Elton John just made the mood fun - I could see a TV screen and even felt the ambiance of the 70’s in a fleeting memory of Summer long ago.
The server returned to take our order and I asked for the Potato Skins from the Appetisers Section. It was very warm for an April day and me that’s a meal.
My husband ordered a Calzone, but I stuck with Potato Skins because I was really hungry. I’d skipped breakfast and lunch.
The server asked if they should be timed to come out at the same time. I said “No, you may bring the Potato Skins out first.” He asked if we were going to share them and I said they were my order and I’d like them to be served when they’re ready.
He said he’d be able to bring them out at the same time (not getting it and disregarding my request) I again asked they come out of the kitchen before the other order - I assured him it was still perfectly fine.
Again he explained they could be served at the same time. Irritated at being dismissed twice I gave up and waited.
The Calzone took 30 minutes and I don’t drink, so just went back to enjoying the setting. We were the only customers there.
As the server approached our table I could see the calzone was a little black around the edges and then my shock and frustration flooded my mind in disbelief.
3 round potato skins looked like bowls. Glazed, shiny, black bowls. There was bacon and cheese in them - but no potato. You couldn’t eat them and they were swimming in a cooking oil puddle. I tried to cut one in half, but the bacon was crisped to the finest crematorium standard and was a culinary close call from becoming ashes.
I turned another one upside down, almost hoping the cooking oil swamp had softened its Cannonball shell.
It looked like a fully engorged Tick.
We paid the bill and left - but, if they want my advice (I’m giving it anyway)… Listen to what people ask and if you think you have a better idea, just suggest it. Don’t insist on it.
You ruined the ending to a...
Read moreNothing. I am not usually a critical review type of person. However, this is the very worst itialian for and pizza I have ever had. Took me son and my fiance to eat there tonight. We got a table on the deck. Son ordered cheese pizza. I ordered calamari pidilla. And my girl ordered eggplant with ziti. First serving. Salad. I'm not joking here. . Half of my lettuce was rotted. Hers had a few as well. We took the stand as well everyone has a bad day. I gave the salad back was asked if I would like another. I refused. Then our meals came out. My fiance ziti was not cooked. Was not even close to Alden te. Very hard like it had sat for a few hours after it was cooked. We asked for a different plate and did receive it. My Calamari and I am not exaggerating here. The calamari was done well. On the other hand. The sauce tasted and looked just like chef boyarde. The only taste difference was hot pepper flakes. Yes I am ashamed to admit is but had plenty of Beefaroni when I was a kid. I must say I did not expect that from a what seemed to be a decent restraunt. My son's plate that was handed to him for his pizza was filthy. It Had hard yellow spots of dried food all over it I promply handed it back food all over it. This is no joke . I have not had such a bad experience with food and other things at an eaterie. I/we will never be back. I was kind of taken aback as well for not even an offer to discount a meal or something. The wait staff was the only thing good. We again c will never be back and I will asume. If they always have this kind of food served. They will not be in business very long. I would have been much happier with subway. Such a nice place with such a wrong set of morals for food. I would love to have Givin this an awesome review. Never gonna happen....
