I hate writing this review especially because I don't Write reviews often and the food is great. This review holds true to all Cafe Mexicalis I've been to, unfortunately this location was the most recent. The food is FANTASTIC. But the service sucks. We have never had an order made correctly any time we visit a Café Mexicalli. If you don't baby sit the staff, watch every single thing they do, and make them listen to what you want in your order, it will be wrong. And it's wrong a diffrent way every single time. Either missing ingredients. Things not on the side, ingredients added that wasn't wanted. It is never a correct order. Staff desperately need to slow down and listen to what the customers want. I been judged while ordering given weird looks, or huffs when I ask the employee to go back and fix what needs fixed. I get their busy, I've worked in the food business and barely complain simply because I get it. I'm just so over paying for what could be fantastic food and get crappy service and constant incorrect orders. And it's litteraly every location I've been to over several years. We don't even bother using the online order anymore because we know it will be miserably incorrectly made. Its unfortunate because we love Cafe Mexicali just wish some attention to detail...
Read moreI expected more from this new establishment. I also expect the owner to write more than just boiler plate “we’ll take this into consideration” responses on reviews, especially since this is a brand new location and so far the experience has been lackluster for many customers, including myself. We ordered takeout from here and I kept it simple the first time (steak quesadilla) cause you never know. I am a HUGE fan of Mexican food and this had to be the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. It was SO SALTY! I was starving but didn’t take more than two bites. I was so excited for this place to open, waited a year for it, and am so disappointed in the quality of food and the staff who can’t seem to grasp the idea of professionalism. I also can’t believe that the only street-facing window gives us nothing but a glimpse of the disarray going on in the kitchen. That’s the only window we can see from 392 and instead of doing a nice display to entice customers, you choose to show a dirty, messy kitchen, not exactly great...
Read moreVery disappointed in the creation of our smothered burritos. The first and last third of my bean and cheese smothered burrito was just rice! The other ingredients--the beans, cheese, and sauce--were not at all proportionate, and were piled into the middle third, and in amounts that seemed pretty skimpy in both beans and cheese compared to dozens of previous experiences with meat-free burritos. Also, the exteriors (of both burritos) were only partly smothered, with completely bare ends. So much of my burrito was just tortilla and rice, therefore dry and lacking in flavor. I am glad I ordered an extra small creamy habanero sauce, but it was only slightly more than half full. Then, using a credit card, I was reminded to leave a tip at check out, which is quite upsetting, especially given the almost worthless quality. I'm surprised by how unsatisfactory my burrito was. I'm pretty sure I will choose to bypass this Cafe Mexicali in the future, although I had been...
