Today was their opening day and La Leona in my opinion is exactly what my hometown of Winnebago needed. They are still waiting for their liquor license that will be established in a few weeks and for now they are cash only. The restaurant was clean, tidy, and very open feeling. Food was great and worth the wait, obviously their first day open is going to be very busy. Hugo our waiter and everyone else we came in contact with were extremely kind and hardworking. Our food was all delicious and authentic. Pricing was very affordable as well. We will definitely be back to try the margaritas when available and look forward to bringing friends. Overall our experience was great, can't wait to return another evening. Thank you La Leona!

La Leona is a small town jewel! The food is authentic and never disappoints. In my several visits I have always gotten a different entree and am now convinced that everything on the menu is superb. Today I had the Chile Verde, which was fantastic, with the option of corn or flour tortillas and pork flavored to perfection. The salsa and chips are wonderful, not to mention the refillable horchata😋. The portions are incredibly large and reasonably priced. If you’re not a big eater, prepare to take a box home to enjoy the flavorful leftovers later. The ambiance is cheery and the servers are very friendly. I would have to say that La Leona is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

A friend asked me to meet her here for lunch… I wasn’t sure I had the right place! My GPS led me to a building with no sign that identified it as La Leona, but I went inside anyway hoping I was at the right place. 🫤 Thankfully, I was. 😊 The food was wonderful and the wait staff was very helpful. Well worth the drive from Rockford. My only wish is that this wonderful restaurant had a sign identifying who they are. 😊💃

Queso, Shredded chicken Chimichangas, Loaded Nachos, and Carnitas were all excellent. The steak in the burritos and enchiladas was great, the sauce on top was rather plain, but maybe that's just how its done. Service was excellent and attentive, but not overbearing. The menu is well rounded, and most things sounded good. We came in before the dinner rush, and sometimes that can mean your food isn't on point since the kitchen isn't fully fired up and running yet, but that wasn't the case with La Leona, everything came out perfectly cooked, hot, and fresh. If you are trying them for the first time I encourage you to dine on location. As someone who grew up in Winnebago, it makes me very happy that a new gem of a restaurant has shown up at the old Toni's pizza location, as it held lots of good memories from my childhood. I encourage everyone to support them. If they keep up this level of service and quality they will be a staple of the community. I look forward to...

I was there. Earlier last week to get us food .One of the owner's was there. He was very rude. Not just to the staff but also me the customer. I paid for my food with my debit card. The lady at the register didn't charge me $2 up charge for stake because i thought it came with steak .. He/ owner's hands me only 1/4 of my food and looks at me like I'm stupid and waited for the rest of my food. As I was walking to my car he came out making a scene getting loud saying You Pay!? You pay!? I said yes. He said who did you pay? I said I paid the girl. Right after I said that, the the girl started storming out the restaurant and he said while throwing his hands around yelling "She is gone She is gone" I felt so bad for the girl I believe she was fired. I never had and issues like this i worked in restaurants in Chicago for a long time and never seen anything like this.. my son and I believe we were one of there 1st customers when they opened my son is a regular...

I have had this place twice now and enjoyed it both times. The first time I ate in and had the chimichanga with ground beef, which was delicious. The refried beans are also very, very good, which is important for me. The service was very good. the glasses they used to serve the drinks in our hilarious and Iced so they’re nice and cold and I love it. It’s such a cool touch. Of course, they also start you off right with great chips and salsa. The second time I had takeout and holy Lord Batman, the amount of rice and being they gave me amazing and I could’ve been rice and beans for five days straight. And of course I got the chimichanga again because it’s absolutely to die for. Overall, cleanliness, staff, food quality. Authentic, fun, family, atmosphere- all 5 stars. so grateful to have a restaurant like this in Winnebago and we need to keep it open so I will continue eating their delicious chimichangas and mountains of...
