Lasagna-gate 2024...until addressed we'll never come back here. This is a vast change from the previous owner who was very nice, engaging, & professional (May 2022). I hate he left...our experience follows.
So I had to share this experience and my recommendation to NOT patronize this Cagneys Kitchen off Cloverdale Ave location. Please comment, especially on their SM pages, and share, share, share!
We have never had an issue here, but things have clearly changed since the owner left and returned to Boston. Long story short, 2 of us ordered, Lasagna. Now mind you, they have Baked Spaghetti too. I'm not sure if the server misheard the order. I ordered “Lasagna” 1st (the word baked was used) and another person in our party ordered lasagna but said “baked lasagna” and we went on about our business. We finally get our food and I'm looking…like what is this because it's not what I ordered. We alert the server to take it back for the lasagna we ordered. It takes a minute and then we hear another server saying something about making changes and not getting in trouble. Why did the other server had to tell us and not the original server, idk. 🤔 She proceeds to tell us that the “cook” said they if we reordered, we'd have ro pay for both dishes. We refused and had them remove the 2 erroneous dishes. So we pretty much didn't eat. The “cook” or manager didn't even come out to address us. I didn't want ANYTHING from that kitchen after that anyway. So I implore you all to NOT spend your hard earned money at a place that will not respect or appreciate...
Read moreThis place describes itself as Winston-Salem's best-kept secret. But, like lying to your boss or telling your partner that the outfit looks terrible on them, some secrets are better left unsaid. This was one of the most pathetic, unorganized, and Bland restaurants I've ever been to. Somehow, the servers managed to mess up three separate meals. Then, when they did get it right, the waiter blamed the kitchen rather than taking any accountability; before we left, when we brought it up to the manager,r he additionally took no responsibility and blamed the waiter. It is clear that under the new management and based on some of the reviews, this place has gone way downhill. There is no passion in this place; there is no commitment to being better; we paid $60 for cold food, the wrong order, and downright disgusting. As the manager heard our grievances, he did nothing to make up for it, not a discount, not an apology, nothing. The good thing is it's evident that the problem with this place is its management; there's a lot of potential as there is at least a theme to this restaurant. However, the theme is not good food, reasonable prices, or a desire to improve. Save your money and go across the street to Panera Bread. As you can see, one of the dishes looks like vomit-covered dog food. The chips were about as hard as they could be, the cornbread was as dry as the chips, and the chicken came out way too hot for our 5-year-old. The mozzarella sticks were $8. There were also no straps on the high chair, and the waiter didn't come to fill our drink...
Read moreWe're at the hospital alot so it's kinda the first restaurant within walking distance. They make a really good French onion soup but that's about it and if you're hungry and want your breakfast without waiting 30 plus minutes, this isn't your place. I was very unimpressed with the biscuits and gravy as they were both very bland and I couldn't eat the egg part of my omlette as it was brown and really gross tasting.
Also, my to go orders have been missing at least one important dressing or cream. (IE: no sour cream with a baked potato)
But at the end, what I was really put off by was the way they talked to each other at the cash register in a foreign language right in front of me as if they were having a secret conversation. I was always taught that it is rude to whisper and tell secrets in front of others and that is no different. It's a very rude gesture and one that the owners should work on not practicing.
We're back in Winston for a 30 day stay at the hospital next month so I'm going to be on the hunt for close by restaurants to help us get thru such a hard time. I'm not sure I will be back to Cagneys as I've had a bad experience 4 out of 5 times.
That soup is yum tho. Hard to...
