We had previously gone to an Eggs Up Grill franchise in Myrtle Beach and loved it, particularly the eggs Benedict/hollandaise. I was very excited when I heard they were opening a location here in Winston! We went this morning and while it was ok, I was a little let down, particularly considering how new they are (meaning that the bloom shouldn't be off the rose this early).
We came in and were seated promptly, our drink orders were taken, and I asked for honey with my coffee (I'm diabetic and using straight sugar in my coffee often leads to an unwanted nap). Coffee was brought out, sugar and creamer cups were already on the table, but our waitress had turned and left before I had a chance to remind her about the honey. When she came to take our order shortly after, I asked again. No big, the coffee was very hot, it'd keep until she brought the honey over. She took our order.
Now, I had noticed on the menu that there were several seafood-containing options, crab cakes, etc. I don't eat seafood at all, not even derivatives like sauces, but I figured it was reasonably safe to order breakfast food. When my meal was brought out (Eggs Benedict over corned beef hash with home fries) I smelled fish. At first I thought it might have been the table behind us or to the side of us ordering seafood, but it was not - there was a strong odor coming from my plate. Visually, everything was as it should be, so I thought maybe I was imagining it and started eating.
Corned beef hash should not taste like fish. I wasn't imagining things, my meal had clearly been prepared on a grill or griddle that had not been well cleaned, and my breakfast was inedible for me because I don't eat seafood. My husband ended up sharing his breakfast with me just so I had something to eat. He tried a bite of my breakfast and agreed that it tasted unpleasantly like fish/crab.
As all this was happening, another waitress (not ours) asked if there was anything she could get us / if we needed more coffee, and I asked her for the now long-awaited honey. She said she would bring it. 10 minutes go by, she does not, my husband flags the original waitress and asks (politely, we do our best not to be pains in the asses) if she would mind bringing the honey, as now my coffee was getting cold. She says she will.
We finish our breakfast (mine essentially intact, save for the home fries my husband ate) and I gradually finish my unsweetened, unpleasant lukewarm coffee because, well, I paid for the damn cup, didn't I?
When our waitress finally comes by again, she apologizes for forgetting the honey and glances apprehensively at my now empty mug and asks if I want it. I say no.
After assuring her that I was not angling for free food or anything, I explained why my breakfast was mostly uneaten, she listened and apologized, which I appreciated. She was also kind enough to take off the trio of cronuts we ordered - those were actually quite good and I would definitely recommend them - but overall I would say our visit was not a breakfast experience worth the...
Read moreI’m adding to this review at the top since the owner added the comment below. Your asking about my glasses they are prescription glasses from rayban and have cameras in them. I was not using them. The light would be on. And yes I said want me to make a free video. You said no. I’m good with that. I left because it was very unorganized and hectic feeling. We waited 20 min to get our order. We looked around and no one had food. There were people waiting at the door long before we got there to get the take out order. I have a busy schedule and was worried to end up like them. The PR thing has nothing to do with anything. I actually know who they are talking about and like them. It sucks you blame customers that are coming in to give you money.
I was really excited to try the new Eggs Up Grill location in Winston-Salem, especially since I love a good breakfast spot, but unfortunately, my experience here was an absolute disaster. The only positive part of my visit was being greeted by a wonderful host. They were incredibly nice and helpful, which gave me hope that things would go well. But after that, everything went downhill fast.
Once we were seated, it quickly became a mess. The server seemed confused and told us we were sitting at the wrong table or that there was some weird mix-up with the seating order. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes before they even took our drink order. When the coffee finally arrived, it was basically watered-down brown sludge. Completely undrinkable.
Then came the food order. The server had no clue about the menu and couldn’t answer basic questions about the dishes. It was clear they weren’t trained well. After ordering, we sat for another 30 minutes—no updates, no check-ins, and still no food. At that point, we just decided to leave. We walked out without ever getting our meal because it simply wasn’t worth the wait or the frustration.
If you’re in the mood for a good breakfast, I’d suggest going next door to the bagel place—they’ve got their act together. But as for Eggs Up Grill, I’d avoid it, at least for the next year or so, until they get their service figured out. Right now, it’s not ready...
Read moreThis will be the last time I ever order from this unprofessional restaurant. My Fiancé says this happens often and wish I would’ve known sooner.
My fiancé went to pick up an order I had placed and had to wait 20 minutes for it to be ready. He said there were people yelling and fighting in the kitchen, which is extremely unprofessional. When he arrived with the order just 3 minutes after picking it up it was already cold, and items were missing. When I went to the restaurant to address the issue, I was not greeted or assisted for nearly 10 minutes. However, a white group who arrived after me was assisted immediately by the pregnant waitress. Before she could seat them, I asked her why they were helped before me. She was clearly upset that I pointed out her implicit bias in front of the other customers. She responded with an attitude and asked, “Are you here to be seated?” before storming off to get the manager.
FINALLY some help right?
The manager, who has only been managing for three weeks, was no help. I received my refund and a halfhearted apology lmao. Stating, “We’re so busy”. But no one could answer why the group behind me was assisted before I was.
For a moment I thought I might’ve overreacted but as soon as I looked at a DoorDasher who was waiting, she immediately told me that I was much nicer than she would’ve been. She told me she had noticed the prejudice against me. Because even she was assisted immediately. There were a bunch of people huddled in the back, just staring at me. No one moved until the other...
