One of the hole-in-the-wall gems of Winter Park, Buttermilk Bakery is a quaint, beautiful little bakery that hides along the shops on the strip on Orange Ave. Mindful of both form and function, they know how to make delicious and decadent pastries, both savory and sweet. I'm incredibly impressed with the incredible eye to detail in everything. Some items are even made gluten-free as to make them a little bit less 'guilty' since it's hard to contain oneself when faced with the choices this place offers.
Their ordering function on the website is incredibly useful and is accurate in depicting what is in stock and what isn't. I recommend using this feature to place your order prior to you arriving in order to guarantee getting what you want. You can bet with a place as good as this that the most desired items will be sold first. With the savory croissant tarts, all of the elements involved are carefully thought out and treated appropriately. The mushroom tart for example has mushrooms that are perfectly cooked and a decent enough size to get a flavour pop, which is enhanced by the smoked cheddar that accompanies it. The Calabrian chili that's on the tomato tart is the perfect component to balance the earthiness of the tomato with the savouriness of the cheese and croissant.
The Kouign-amann pastry is one of the sweet items that everybody must try from Buttermilk Bakery. Simple, yet not simple is it's technique and execution, but delicious and has a greater depth of flavor than you would expect out of this little package. I'm not sure if there's a schedule to what items get made what day, but I enjoy variety enough to appreciate a rotating menu to always try something new and exciting. The baklava croissant is a well-executed and interesting spin on the original and I enjoyed it. I hope that everybody who comes here and tries what they have to offer walks away as satisfied and...
Read moreI visit this place for the first time about 6 months ago, and it left a good impression. The first time I had their delicious vanilla sprinkled brioche donut, their chocolate chip cookie, and some kind of seasonal berry cake. The brioche donut has a different taste to it that's different from traditional donuts, and is delicious. So that's the main thing I wanted on my second visit, but unfortunately they were out. I got their seasonal matcha passion fruit brioche donut, and I can say that it is indeed the dough itself what makes their donuts so good. Their chocolate chip cookies are great as well. I consider myself a cookie aficionado/cookie monster, and I have to say, they make good cookies. If you like peanut butter, they make a really good peanut butter cookie as well. The berry cake I got by mistake. I had asked for something else, and they gave me that instead, but it was good as well. I'm not much of a cake person though. On my second visit I tried their cinnamon roll croissant bread pudding with cream cheese frosting, and that was interesting and savory, and would recommend you try it.
The interior of the place is small, with some tables outside. They have a website where you can place your order, and see the availability of the menu. I recommend you do, so you're not disappointed when you get there and they don't have the thing you wanted, like it happened to me. I like this little bakery, and even though is a bit of a drive, I'll be visiting it every other week if not a...
Read moreI have had the privilege and temptation of living across the street from this place since they opened. The service is consistently spectacular. The women working here are professional and friendly. They make serving hoards of people salivating for pastries look easy, but itâs not! It appears like cramped working quarters where there are hot ovens and baking happening, yet they are always happy and eager to get people what they want. Like in New York if the place doesnât have a long line, you probably donât want to eat there, so expect to wait in line because you do! Come early for the best selection of pastries. They will sell out and that is to be expected, theyâre fresh and high quality. Just choose whateverâs left and youâll still be thankful you did. Patio front and side are fabulous. Itâs simple and quaint. Itâs a good thing theyâre not open Mondays otherwise Iâd be spoiling my team with these pastries far too often and going broke. Sara(h?) is the ideal person to tender your transaction and strike up some chit chat, genuinely loving to get to know people. I donât know everyoneâs name but everyone else is great, too. Coming here is the best way to treat yoâ self! Although they could probably expand I hope this location remains for many more years. Thank you all for getting up early, working hard, and making the winter park Orlando...
