Worst Experience Ever – Never Again
This past Saturday, my wife and I stopped at Cinco de Mayo Contemporary Mexican Restaurant in Winthrop because it had been recommended to us and was on our way home. Big mistake.
The owner offered us two types of menus: a “gourmet cuisine” menu and a regular menu that comes from a food truck they also operate. We quickly chose the gourmet option after all, if we wanted food from a truck, we could eat on the street.
I ordered steak with beans and rice. The rice was reheated, the beans tasted straight out of a can, the meat seemed like it had been cooked 2–3 days earlier, and the tamale was so hard it crumbled like a rock. The only decent items were the horchata and the salad, which at least seemed fresh. And this is what they call “gourmet cuisine”? They clearly have no idea what they’re doing.
Here’s my question: if you open a restaurant to succeed, isn’t the first rule to serve fresh food especially if you’re offering two types of menus? If I wanted reheated leftovers, I could have stayed home and done it for free.
It gets worse: for this terrible meal, we were charged $66.89 as if it were top-quality cuisine. I understand prices are high these days, but serving reheated food at that price is insulting.
And the final straw: I left a $13.19 tip and signed for a total of $79.16, only to find they charged me $80.08 without my authorization. I know it’s “only” 92 cents more, but if this happens to every customer, how much are they pocketing over a year by altering charges?
Between the reheated food and the shady billing practices, I will never go back...
Read moreI have been waiting for Cinco De Mayo to open for sit down and take out meals for a couple of weeks. I drove by today and the food Truck that was parked out front had the best Tacos and Burritos and I felt were a step above from what I was finding and at a reasonable price. The ingredients were fresh. The meat was moist. I prefer pork in my tacos. So Carintas all the way! So on the new diet I am on? I happy to hear I can have Tacos wrapped in lettuce! You heard it right folks. No Carb Tacos are here any way you like it! For me it’s the classic onions with cilantro. Extra cilantro! Finishing off my meal was a suggestion from the owner. Her mother’s recipe from back home : Coctel de Camaron! What a great lunch! I...
Read moreOrdered takeout and the chicken burrito, while large, had absolutely no flavor. The chicken had no seasoning at all and the texture and taste was like chunk chicken out of a can. I also ended up being charged around $4 more than what I had calculated. The person who checked me out handled the charge and I thought she selected the no tip option and I did not ask for a receipt. So I'm not sure what the price...
