El Dorado Grill — Restaurant in Wise

Don’t go on Saturdays!!!! I’ve been going to this restaurant for a few years and it has steadily maintained, in my opinion, the most delicious Tex-Mex place in southwest VA! It is the best place for local mixed drinks and ice cold beer! At one point, I rated this place with 5 stars! The food used to be amazing! As of late, there is clear issue between wait staff and the cooks or maybe they’re understaffed on weekends. This evening was the second time in two consecutive trips within 6 or weeks or so that food orders were cold, incorrect and had to wait some time before missing items were brought to our table separately that was ordered at the same time as everything else. Our food got cold by the time we received our remaining items to eat with our meal. Again, this is the second bad experience in a matter of weeks. I’ve eaten here with no issues whatsoever for years. The waitress wrote everything we asked for on our ticket and provided great service but we voiced our issues. When we told our waitress our issues, she was easily aggravated, abruptly walked off and the manager came by a short time later. The excuse this time was, “We have a large party outside.” Last time a similar excuse was used, “We’re really busy.” No one cares about a large party outside or you being busy because you charge everyone the same price. I offered patience and understanding during our last bad experience but two in a row isn’t an excuse. We pay the same money for the same experience as everyone else. Normally, when wait staff are easily upset it’s because of being short staffed. Clearly, they are understaffed on the weekends. If El Dorado gets back to what it was, you will NEVER BEAT IT!!! For now, we will give this place a break and hopefully it will return to its former glory. I will forever be a fan of El Dorado. I’m not downing this establishment, it’s a great place to eat and drink but not as good as it once was. No...

The waitresses are always kind, patient, helpful, and hardworking. As a Manager of another local Restaurant it's nice to see a busy location where you get great service and exceptional food and drinks for a reasonable price. My fiance and I like to have our date night here. It's a convenient location where you can enjoy your meal outdoors on there patio if you choose. Even when we dine indoors we will take our cocktails outside and enjoy our after dinner cigarette. We always let our waitress know where we will be and have never had a problem. KEEP UP THE HARD WORK!!!!! It does pay off in the end. PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIP YOUR WAITER OR WAITRESS. THEY ONLY MAKE $2.13per hour and depend on the tips of customers to make up the difference so they at least make minimum wage. Show them you appreciate the hard work they do to provide us with a hot meal...

On our way home from vacationing in North Carolina we stayed at The Inn at Wise and decided to walk to El Dorado for dinner.

Pros: The food was good. The atmosphere and decor was fun. The pricing was fair. The restaurant was clean.

Cons: The service was terrible. Our table was hardly returned to after we were seated. The restaurant was not busy. We did not receive everything we ordered and we were never brought a check. We had to walk to the hostess stand in order to find out out what to do in order to make good on our bill. We wanted to treat ourselves to fried ice cream (it is vacation after all!), but because we were never returned to...we did not get to.

Overall...a clean, nicely decorated restaurant makes no difference if the service...
