I hate writing this review, but I feel overlooking things leads to a lower standard customers will continue to be expected to accept. We really looked forward to visiting K&E whenever we were in Wise. We even made it a point to take my auntie when she was visiting from Texas a couple of years ago. There was a bit of a gap between our last visits. We were quite surprised by our last stop in.
First, we noticed the tables and floors were filthy. I had to wipe our table up myself with a handi-wipe as food from the previous customers littered the table top and many of the other tables were just as dirty. We noticed our feet were even sticking to the floor. This had never been the case before.
When I received my food it was the direct opposite of what I had ordered which was a grilled chicken salad with everything, no onions. I received lettuce, chicken, and nothing else, but the onions I explicitly said I didn't want. No other vegetables at all.
My husband ordered a taco salad and received one tiny cup of sour cream for his mostly large bed of lettuce-taco salad. I watched him eat the dry lettuce unhappily and urged him to please go ask for a bit more sour cream. One should not simply accept what you are miserable with when you work hard to pay that bill. Yet, he simply accepted the slight and chewed on.
Also, we both noticed immediately that our salads was unmistakably made with pre-bagged lettuce, verses fresh. To note, a year prior I had ordered that same chicken salad and remarked how fresh and delicious it was. I absolutely loved their honey mustard dressing. Now, perhaps they've always used pre-bagged lettuce, however, this time it was impossible not to notice the taste.
When I approached them about my order, they apologized saying they were training new workers. That's fully understandable. Mistakes do happen. They took my plate and rectified it with the addition of some vegetables and the onions were removed. We both ate our food, albeit not impressed with the prebagged lettuce taste and my husband's dry taco salad.
We left to go shop and I immediately began to feel really sick. My stomach remained terribly nauseated throughout that evening, all that night, and into the next morning. We both agreed we won't be returning unless changes are made. Again, we can absolutely understand a wrong order due to training workers (it's always young kids working). However, not cleaning tables in a timely manner and being presented with filthy tables, floors, and restroom is just not okay. Nor is getting sick directly after eating there!
So disappointing, when our general area is lacking in great food options as it is. After several months of not visiting a place you can really notice if food, cleanliness, and service has gotten slack. Unfortunately, that was our experience in this case. They tend to be a little pricey compared to other options in this same casual food class. We were always willing to pay a little more for the quality and atmosphere. Even the upbeat be-bop music and 50's genre loses its lustre when things aren't clean or quality anymore.
They display awards they've received for great food and service. I know these were well-deserved and I am aware these are good Christian folks, so I do hope they realize noticeable changes have taken place and will rectify them. We would love to return to the place we adored. Desserts are still excellent. Therefore I'm rating 3-stars overall despite the 2-star experience that landed me sick. In Christian love, get back to your humble beginnings and...
Read moreCopies from my very good friend Sherry McCowan. She visited this establishment yesterday. So very sad local businesses have it hard enough without having employees and service like this.
Prepare for my rant. I took my 2 granddaughters to K&E Sweets for dinner. Biggest mistake I could have made. To the you lady who waited on us , you my dear were nothing but kind. Now let’s get onto the ice cream girl and the manager. My granddaughters went over 3 times to get an ice cream however the girl working could not do her job because she was to interested in some man, she even chased him out into the parking lot when he left. She came back in and after 5 more minutes I had to tell her to do her job and get my granddaughters an ice cream. So when I went to check out there Ms Ice Cream was again. I ask for the manager and he was chatting her up. When I told him about her behavior he shrugged and just grinned. Bad business. I personally will never give them another penny business. This is why local businesses most time fail.
And below was their response which was not a contributing factor for the...
Read moreI stopped in to get a cupcake after getting a massage at mantra massage and I shared it with my boyfriend(we got the raspberry wedding cake flavor) It was so good we went back and got 2 more different cupcakes to try! The cupcakes are not too sweet, the flavor is so good, and the raspberry jam didn't have any artificial taste to it. The icing is so unique as well! I'm super exicted to try literally everything from them, I want to try their hot food as well! Also the staff was very attentive, when you walk in no one stands at the bakery counter because they are probably busy in the back preparing food but they always promptly come...
