Hing Wah Chop Suey — Restaurant in Wood River

Driving by this place the food smells excellent but eating here is a TOTALLY different story! There was a bit of a language barrier/miscommunication when ordering. I ordered "beef & broccoli" not sure why it's even called that cause it was overwhelmed with bok choy or cabbage (couldn't tell which one it was) and carrots and only had about 5 tiny pieces of broccoli. Asked for fried rice with no veggies (still had a ton of onion in it) when it came out our food was literally standing in oil/grease the only thing that wasn't floating in it was the egg roll and crab ragoon (less than a half a teaspoon of filling) believe it or not. The egg drop soup was incredibly bland. Almost as if it was hard boiled egg water that may have been thickened. I have NEVER been to a Chinese restaurant that didn't give fortune cookies with the check (or before leaving) until now. The bathroom was bit creepy and definitely could use a cleaning and some repairs, like the fan that turns on with the light sounds as if something is trying to escape from the ceiling, the faucet handle is broken and only has cold water, there is no mirror (I found it odd not even over the sink) or heater vent so it is extremely cold in there. Over all it was very disappointing. Not a place that we would recommend...

Updating my review: I chose Hing Wah for dinner last night after reading reviews of other Chinese restaurants in the area (I definitely didn't want to go to one that reviewers often say is "dirty" looking) and was pleasantly suprised. They only have 3 tables but they were all wiped down, the chairs were clean, the floor looked mopped, and there were boxes all over the dining area but they were neatly stacked and organized. I ordered from the Specials menu and it was great. It was one of the few times I ate the entire thing and not throw away half into the trash. Even the white rice seemed better than other restaurants. I'll definitely be going back.

This restaurant discreetly serves the best food in the world. We're not supposed to say anything about it, but it's true. This restaurant makes more delicious food than any other restaurant. I am risking a whole lot by telling you this, and I don't know why it is so important to me to share this information with you, but since you're checking the reviews for this place, you may as well try some of the food, because it is the best food in the world.
