West Egg Cafe — Restaurant in Woodbury

I stumbled across West Egg Cafe this past weekend tucked into a plaza in Woodbury, CT & I'm glad that I did!

I had the Breakfast Tacos that were amazing, accompanied with a pastry (or 2) of which they have a great selection! I also had their coffee which was good, slightly burnt but I think we could all agree first thing in the morning coffee is coffee.

Here's where this place could go from good to great. Ordinary to extraordinary; Atmosphere. I'll explain; The place is a beautiful breakfast spot from outside to in. It's really warm and welcoming... with the exception of the staff!

I was greeted by a young man behind the counter that was completely dry, monotoned & simply was just an order taker. There was an older woman (maybe the floor manager or perhaps an owner) who was working the resturant floor who I did not see crack a smile once let alone engage, interact or give off any "warm & fuzzies." If there were Dalmatian puppies in there, they would be hiding! It did not feel like an inviting atmosphere to dine but more of a bother or burden which in the heart of small town Woodbury is a miss!

Take the criticism, throw a smile or 2 on those faces, interact & engage positively. It'll go a long way!...

Do not let the name fool you . . . Breakfast is just a small piece of what this gem has to offer. New York City food quality standards and culinary talent that cannot be matched, meet rural western Connecticut at West Egg. The food is not comparable to anywhere else. Baked goods, such as the Almond cake, carrot cake, coffee cake, pumpkin muffins, cookies and scones . . . Swoon / pass out good. You will drool over the bakery case. Do not stand too close and keep your mouth closed! Breakfast speaks for itself. One has to travel halfway across Connecticut to get anything remotely comparable. Cornbeef hash ... whoa! Biscuits . . . Oh yeah. The pancakes and various eggs benedicts are to die for. Lunch . . . If you make it - amazing. Salads are delicious. Smoke salmon Bahn mi . . . Yup. Order it. Do not question, me. Order it. The tartines, also phenomenal, prosciutto and hot honey, please. Baby, get some. Additionally, least we forget--the coffee is fantastic. Yup! Go to West Egg. And hang for awhile. Sit by the fireplace or on the beautiful patio. And say hi to the wonderful staff who will have you coming back time and time...

In all my years tasting my way through cafes, bakeries, and fine dining establishments i have finally found the perfect breakfast sandwich. Each and every bite better than the last, leaving you only wanting more.....Leaving you with a void that nothing you taste will ever be as delectable there after. After my one and only experience at west egg it is clear that these sandwiches are constructed by none other than the thoughtful hand of a Picasso like sandwich artist, a maestro of breakfast foods orchestrating a well balanced symphony of flavors. All of which under the umbrella of a beautiful business run by lovely people, committed to phenomenal service, and stellar food. West egg has forever changed my standards of breakfast foods, leaving me with nothing other than an insatiable craving for a better experience that simply can not be found...
