If I could give negative stars, I would. A farewell dinner for one of the 6 couples in our neighborhood moving to another state. But 2.5 hours to get dinner? On a Tuesday night when they were not even close to busy (and I know why). I cannot drink alcohol and have food allergies and sensitivites that are not 'good' with any type of Mexican cuisine - but I didn't choose the restaurant. I cannot drink alcohol - unless I want a 3-day migraine. I cannot do wheat. I'm allergic to peppers - the more capsacin - the worse the reaction. So, I stuck with plain water and ordered two cheese enchiladas (corn tortillas) and white sauce. Everyone else was drinking and ordering combo meals and enormous burritors and stuff like that. I just can't. Unless the restaurant wants to have the EMTs show up - or I want to suffer for 3 days. What came out was the VILEST meal that has ever been placed before me in a restaurant in my life - bar none. Two cold tortillas wrapped around what was NOT cheese - no taste - gooey, spongey - but not cheese. Covered in the type of thick paste that bad breakfast places serve as the gravy on 'biscuits and gravy'. Looked like paste. Tasted like salt. NOT a 'sauce' - not a cream sauce FOR SURE. It was disgusting. Like they had used a powdered 'gravy' mix and threw in some green chunks of pepper (GREAT!) to make it look like Mexican cuisine. I scraped all of it to the side - where it sat and stared at me for 1.5 hours like some moldy mound of indigestion waiting to happen. And, given the occasion and the fact that everyone else was drinking margaritas and had full plated Mexican 'meals' in front of them - I waited till the 'waiter' came to take away plates or bring 'boxes' - and told him 1) it was not hot when served 2) what was on the 'enchiladas' was NOT a sauce - it was paste 3) it was disgusting. He could not have cared less. Probably cursed me in another language as he walked away. Wish I had a picture - my husband sitting across the table two seats away - even saw it and commented when we got in the car - like, "what was that they served you?". I said they treated me like pig vomit because I didn't order alcohol or a huge plate of rice and fried beans and flour and reheated meat. I was getting looks from the rest of the table at what was on my plate. Will hear more on their thoughts about it later, I 'm sure. The restaurant probably thought I was a cheapskate instead of a person with problematic allergies and sensitivites trying to do what's best for me - and not for them - because that's what they do - they treat you like that. Have had problems with this place every time we've been there - but I didn't choose it - it was not my show - I was just there for the occasion. Do not go or trust this place. They don't have a chef back in the kitchen - or even good cooks - just people reheating & microwaving stuff. ...
Read moreWe moved to the Tri-Lakes area about a year ago, and have been looking for a new "go-to" Mexican place. We've found it! We were spoiled by several excellent Mexican restaurants on the south end of Denver and hadn't found anything that was close here. We came on a Saturday and beat the dinner rush by just a few minutes but our meals came out quickly.
The chips and salsa were way above average. The salsa wasn't very spicy hot, but had great flavor and good texture. Some salsa's are blended into oblivion. My wife and son shared the steak fajitas, their favorite. These weren't the BEST they've had, but pretty good. The steak was tender and had good flavor. The side fixin's were a bit scarce, we can always use more cheese! Guac was good, nice and fresh, and the onions and peppers were well grilled and still had a little crunch.
They don't offer my favorite dish, chilli rellenos. So I went with the chicken fajita chimichnga with chili con queso. I am used to pretty crispy chimi's and this was barely fried. But overall it was a successful dish with the same fajita veggies as my guests, plus well grilled and tasty chicken.
Absolute hands down winner was the extra hot sauce I ordered. I like really spicy hot food and sauces, and most legit Mexican places have a hot sauce for the masochists among us. This sauce was not particularly hot, but it had an amazing rich, smokey flavor. There were subtle flavor notes that just danced on the tongue - it was literally the best hot sauce I've ever had!
Was it perfect? Not quite. The menus have plastic pages, and they weren't very clean so stuck together. The young woman who brought our plates just about threw them on the table, like they were too hot to handle. She seemed annoyed with us for some reason. The young man who was our primary server was great and checked back a couple of times. The place IS loud with little sound deadening, and one large dining room. Definitely not conducive to a quiet date night.
Value was very good at just over $70 for the 3 of us, 2 sodas, 1 beer, tax and tip. Compared to Jarrita Loco across the highway , the food is better and considerably cheaper. We will...
Read moreIf zero stars was an option that would be more appropriate!! Food was undercooked, our waitress LULU would rather argue and demand payment without trying to make it right… no asking if we wanted any dessert or anything else once I said my food was undercooked, she just brought the bill and charged full price ($21.09 before tax) for one meal that I didn’t eat. We will never be back and I hope that this will help others steer clear of the waste of money, stomach ache and frustration!
Edited to add more information given the owners not surprising terrible response to our terrible experience..
I ordered a steak chimichanga, when I received my order I noticed the chimichangas wrapping was undercooked, soggy, not crispy at all, not enough green chili, and in addition when I tried it the steak was tasteless on top of everything else… I decided to ask for more green chili to attempt not to complain about my food, as this seems like the type of place to spit in your food if you complain… I received the green chili and that didn’t help the problems or taste, so I didn’t eat my meal, I ate the chips and salsa instead of my meal. Lulu came to the table and asked if I wanted a box as she saw my full plate, at that time I decided to let her know my dish was undercooked and soggy… she took my plate away mumbling and mocking me.. she proceeded to come back and drop the bill without another word… we placed our debit card with the bill to try to get her to come to the table, instead a male came to the table and I asked him to get her so I could ask about the chimichanga not being taken off the bill…. He went and told her something and she came flying out of the kitchen straight to our table running her mouth so fast, loud, and rude I couldn’t get a word in… I was trying to tell her I ordered the green chili to help my gross meal… she didn’t care she didn’t want to help with the bill or situation at all… all she wanted to do was yell and be rude saying that I only complained cuz it was time to pay.... even though she carried away a full plate of food.. we’ve never experienced this behavior in a restaurant EVER!! Beware of this unhinged restaurant staff and ownership...
