I think that Mi Amor has a ton of potential. I do understand that they just opened, but they are familiar faces from the previous restaurant that stood in its place. I truly want to see success here- the location and the space are great. Although I do appreciate the revamps of some classic favorites, one of the things that stopped our frequency towards the end of the previous establishment is 1. the quality of the ingredients and 2. the quality of the drinks. Times are tough and sometimes using similar, but high quality ingredients goes a lot further than cutting down the quality and keeping the price tag the same. I would rather pay more for the better ingredients. The drinks are simply fair too sweet. If I pay $15 for a drink such as an old fashioned, it should not taste like syrup. The additions on an old fashioned are a compliment to the whiskey, not the base. The final thing that we noticed was there was a full house on the patio and only one female server running it. The response time for the guests lacks significantly because of this. It should not take 10 minutes to get the first beverage and 30 minutes before the order is taken. There were several staff members there with what appeared to be serving aprons on and the patio should have been divided. We saw this happening at the end of the life space of previous ownership. Having a family staff is great, but there should be appropriately divided tables because it was clear to all the guests that night that the server was struggling. Again, the food is well cooked and the ownership is friendly, but if service is lacking and there are several staff standing around because one server is taking all of the tables, there should definitely a redistribution of responsibilities. This is a great opportunity to be a strong staple in our community. Please consider these opinions and I look forward to updating my review on our next visit. (and people are right- chips and salsa on a table are comfort staple that people will love and you will probably sell more drinks as well...
Read moreMi Amor Mexican Restaurant, as the name implies, My love, a Latino term of endearment reserved for family members and/or your significant other. And I realized very quickly that this was absolutely not, your average, everyday, Mexican Taqueria. In fact, I believe, in my opinion, it should be ranked in the top 10 Mexican cuisines in the Chicago Land Area. Allow me to share, Mi Amor's open and exquisite decadent dining areas and fun-loving outdoor patio atmospheres’ made me feel as though I was back in Cabo San Lucas, without the beach of course! Yet, their authentic Mexican gourmet recipes were a hybrid of flavors that immediately stimulated my culinary pallets and senses, it tasted GOOD! The menu was easy to read, and what was served matched the photo on the menu, no false advertisements here, y'all! Mi Amor, being consumer conscious of their patrons, showcased hearty and healthy meal options. Their bar's decor was elegant and inviting. Their modern day melodies of Latino mixes were just loud enough to enjoy and not annoy! The Mixologists were not only pleasing to the eyes, but served the best frozen Margaritas and Sangria drinks I have ever tasted, it was top shelf and deliciously refreshing. Their friendly waitstaff greeted me immediately and exhibited exceptional customer service skills and tended to my every need. This location on the South Side of Chicago, called Evergreen Park A/K/A The “Village of Churches” was truly divine. This area is a recreation center that has attracted hundreds of Chicagoans' to its picnic groves, beer gardens and dance events for the past decade. I felt safe, catered to and most importantly, I felt their love, their passion and their dedication for culinary excellence, not bad for a family owned restaurant, right! In conclusion, their title lives up to its name, thanks Mi Amor, for providing us with another “Gem” on the South-side, to be enjoyed and treasured by all! Que Viva!!! Army Combat Engineer...
Read moreI took my family out for dinner on the restaurants opening night. (2 week old post) I figured it would be sink or swim type vibes on night one. I had the pleasure to being greeted right away after stepping foot into the beautifully decorated restaurant, it almost seemed like I had left EP. We were seated outside on the patio and they had a table of 8 ready to go for me (I made a reservation). Staff right away introduced themselves and poured us water as we looked over the menu. Everyone on my table ordered either horchata or hibiscus water which everyone loved, and I got the tamarind margarita which was refreshing and allowed me to unwind a bit. Patio is stunning and probably my favorite part or the restaurant. We ordered apps, got spinach & garlic empanadas, the elote croquetas, and chips and guacamole. They were all delicious but that corn is wildly good I could have had three more orders just for myself. Main courses consisted of quesobirria tacos, ribeye tacos, pulpo al pastor tacos, salmón al Carbon, and ceviche. Presentation on all food was great, I only had my dish which was the ribeye tacos with green salsa and I destroyed those bad boys! So good, meat was perfectly cooked and soft. Shout out to the kitchen staff. Unfortunately our baby was acting wild so we decided to skip dessert. We will definitely be back ! On our way out we met the owner Ramon - warm, charismatic young fella. You could tell he was excited about his restaurant and providing a good experience for everyone. He asked about our experience and I must say he did promise me a cold beer next time I went after I told him we had to leave to put the baby down for the night. Overall 5 stars and I can’t wait to go back with my wife on a date night. Best of luck to Mi...
