The girl who first approached us to take our drink order did not introduce herself and was barely audible. The 2nd girl who turned out to be out waitress didn't even bother to ask how we would like our burgers prepare; 2 of us ordered burgers. When requesting chili and gravy for the french fries the waitress said that she didn't think there was chili available for fries So when I asked if there wasn't chili available why would they have a chili cheeseburger advertised as a special for the day. She then said that she didn't think chili is available for French fries since it's made for the burgers! How ridiculous! Why wouldn't you put chili on the fries if it was requested and if you didn't know when you ask B.O.H. before telling me that it's probably not available for fries. When our food arrived the waitress once again reached in front of the people sitting at the end of the booth was barely and apology. Should you not take drinks without having to be told that they needed refills. The burgers were very rubbery, the french fries were wrinkled and tasted of oil not to mention the fact that my son's had hair burned into them! The chicken cheesesteak barely had any cheese on it and had more bun than meat. The french fries with gravy and chili had the chili on top of the fries and then the gravy on top of the chili? So yes you can get chili on your fries! The chicken bites that we ordered were soaked in sauce, so much so that it's soaked through to the chicken. The sauce had an extremely high vinegar content so we did not enjoy those or finish them. The waitress didn't come back to ask how our food was until we were nearly finished with it. Not for the lack of trying but the burger was so disgusting that I would not eat it and had to send it back and have it taken off my tab. And instead of removing my son's meal from the tab they only took off for the french fries that looked like they were picked up from the floor! We use to enjoy going here,...
Read moreDecent food. I usually get the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Sometimes the meat and potatoes are cold. Sometimes they aren't. Still, they are good. Ave Diner is a nice place. Not diner prices though. The food is usually better than diner food though so the prices match the food. A few people told me that I had to try the cheese steak. I wasn't impressed. But there is some quality cooking going on. Like the French onion soup.
Update 08/08/18:
So after having been coming here for a while now I have learned a few things. My food is almost always cold. I'm not exaggerating either. It is barely room temp. Meatloaf is cold, soup cold, home fries cold, mashed potatoes cold. You get the idea. I've mentioned it to my waitresses but they always seem indifferent. I work in restagrants and can tell you their kitchen is flawed. It's a wonder their guests don't get sick.
Their wait staff need to realize they are very close to dining customers and don't to yell back and forth. It isn't a large dining room but the waitresses yell when they interact with one another.
I was never once offered a refill on my coffee of all the times I've been there. I have to flag a waitress down. I'm old school. If you are a waitress and you poor a customer coffee, you come back and offer a refill when you bring the food or on your way to take some else's order. Don't just drop the check and ignore your customers. I probably would have ordered more food if the waitress didn't bring me my check with my food. That's just bad practice.
And while I am speaking about the wait staff, cover your mouths when you cough. I was dining at the counter last time I was there and there was a woman working on the computer having a coughing fit and another pouring coffee. Neither one off them attempted to cough into their shoulder or sleeve. They just stood their mouths wide...
Read moreUPDATE: STILL BAD SERVICE- Still bad waitressing after 4 years! One-star for the quick food from the kitchen staff (~5 mins) or else I would've given 0 stars. Ordered breakfast & coffee for myself, np. While eating and still on my 1st coffee, waitresses check on me 3x, as it should be. It goes downhill from there - Halfway through my meal and finishing up my 1st coffee, waitress brings the bill, np. I finish my breakfast and put my small coffee cup on the table edge indicating a 'REFILL.' Fifteen mins go by - no refill - waitresses are 'busy' with other customers...but it's not 'real' busy. Tables were open even if not cleaned. I'm not in a hurry bc I'm retired military. I just wanted one more coffee before I left, but no, the waitresses "chose" not to refill my coffee(yes, they saw my coffee cup on the table edge more than once) for no apparent reason other than I'm a new customer and they wanted me to leave to get more customers in. I did notice they took real good care of AND even socialized with the regulars again...again, no excuse for bad service! No tip! Lost a customer. So, I was totally ignored by the waitstaff after bill was dropped and also ended up paying $2.70 for 1 very small cup of coffee - bottomless coffee at that - totally ridiculous! Second bad experience out of 3 in 4 years - NEVER going back!
(Original Review from 2018) - Interior nice, plenty seats, decent food, decent prices, parking a little tight/small in the back. Waitresses are anti-social towards single guys by themselves, but they can find the time to chat with everybody else. I probably won't be going back because...
