This review is based off my first fish fry Friday meal. Place was packed at 11:30 so had to wait a bit. Ordered the fish meal which comes with coleslaw and potato choice and soup and choice of grilled or deep fried cod. The pinto bean soup was truly delicious. The coleslaw maybe the best I've ever had. I had french fries. Limp and soggy. I ordered the deep fried cod. Got three pieces in a bread crumb coating that was the most tasteless coating I think I have ever had. The fish was moist and flaky but again no flavor. Incredibly disappointing. I asked for a little bit of the grilled cod to taste and my waitress Bev (a rockstar waitress!!) was more than happy to bring me a large sample of it. Moist and well flavored and tasted so good! But....it was rubbery. If they could get the flavor of the grilled on the deep fried fish they would have an absolute home run. As it is now the side dishes are the star of the meal and not the fish. I eat a LOT of fish and chips (from Wa state) and feel I know great fish and chips from mediocre tasting. I will be back regardless. I saw a lot of dishes I thought look very delicious. We...
Read moreIt is with great regret that I give Brownie’s restaurant a 1 star.
I have been living in Yuma, Arizona on and off for 24 years and I have never tried Brownies. My baby boo and I are a fan of diners and decided to visit Brownies for the first time and unfortunately it will be our last.
There was a wait to sit, I saw that as a good sign, people lining up must mean the food is bussin’. So we waited about 10 minutes and got a table.
There was a special for French Toast, 2 eggs and 2 sausage links for 11.99. I thought that was a great deal so I went with the French Toast, my partner had the Chicken Fried Steak with the hash browns.
I’m really disappointed, the French toast needed gallons of syrup to taste like something, the chicken fried steak was dry, had no taste, and the gravy was cold. For the life of me I could not understand how people were coming in hoards.
The service was nice, waitresses are friendly.
The food is not good, my partner had an upset stomach for the rest of the day because he ate the chicken fried steak, going to the restroom multiple times.
People come to this place because of nostalgia because...
Read moreI see people complaining about lack of flavor. I really wanted to try this place so decided to go with something simple. The Brownie Special. 2 eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. Bacon was excellent. Eggs were really good and cooked exactly like I asked for them. The hash browns lacked in flavor I guess but that's what salt and pepper is for. The butter they use on the toast is not the greatest. However, my toast was still good. Maybe they have a different butter if you ask? The coffee was great. Coffee seems easy enough but a lot of restaurants in Yuma mess that up. The service was a little slow taking my order but I was greeted immediately and asked what I would like to drink. I was given that and had to wait 4 or 5 minutes to order. The food came super quick so it balances out. This place hit the spot. I'll definitely give them another go. I read old reviews and no one complained of food not tasting good or flavorful. A new development? New cook? Hopefully the owner reads reviews and takes note. I love supporting small business especially one that actually feels like an old...
