We have loved Da Boyz over the last several years that we’ve lived here. So, we believed that it was the perfect place to have our going away dinner.
We made a reservation 2 weeks out for a party of 30 to ensure that the restaurant was adequately prepared for us. About 5 days out, I changed the reservation for 33 and the day before I asked them to set for 35. Regardless, we knew we were expecting about 30 people.
Every single one of us in the party serve, bartend, or work in the kitchen so we are well aware how a restaurant is run and how things go.
When I made the reservation, I naturally expected more than one server for our party. Especially since gratuity would be applied for our large party, so you expect to have a certain level of service. Especially when it’s such a large group. Not a single one of us have ever taken on a party of 18+ alone, let alone a party of 30, that’s how many we ended up with. And we were provided with one single server.
I want to make this abundantly clear, our server did great for being by herself. But, she was clearly overwhelmed and needed help with the size of the party that we had.
Drink orders took over an hour to complete as our party was trickling in. No one was asked if we would like to order appetizers while we waited for the rest of our party. We had guests who had been there longer wanting to order more bar drinks but was unable to do so because our server was so overwhelmed by the guests newly arriving ordering drinks that the rest of us were seemed to be forgotten about. By the time we were able to order, we were so hungry. My partner and I ordered an appetizer when she finally came around to take orders and we were only able to enjoy it for 5 minutes before our entrees arrived.
In addition to this, the guests surrounding us, including ourselves were completely out of water. Someone finally came in with a pitcher and started refilling glasses and just asked if we wanted to keep the pitcher and I proceeded to ask for a second pitcher because so many of us had no water. I had already drank my water and my partners water before I was even presented an opportunity to get more water.
The only assistance our server received from her coworkers all night was to pass out our food or bar drinks. And it was all auctioned off. This restaurant, what I perceived it as anyways, is a more upscale experience. Auctioning off food to a party is far from that. You’re trying to enjoy everyone’s company but all you hear is servers yelling orders hoping that everyone is listening. We had a guest receive someone else’s food (pepperoni and sausage calzone) and was reassured that it was their food (a calzone WITH jalapeños) when they asked. This guest began to eat the other guests food. So, the guest who actually ordered the pepperoni and sausage calzone then ate the calzone that someone else had already eaten off of due to this inefficient method of passing out food. I highly suggest that management looks into this thing called — seat numbers. It would really help you guys out!
At the end of the evening one of our own guests even got up to help our server pass out Togo boxes and checks.
There was a huge opportunity missed here to earn this business more money by not providing the adequate amount of staffing for a large party even though they had a 2 week notice to staff appropriately.
We’re beyond disappointed in our experience and were embarrassed to have selected this restaurant for our going away dinner. We were all in disbelief over the staffing situation all being in the industry. I could not recommend this establishment for any parties more than 6-8 guests since they clearly do not understand how to properly handle larger parties even though they have the space for them.
The only reason that I’m providing more than 1 star is because their lasagna is seriously the best lasagna that I’ve ever had (and this was the whole reason we chose this location so that we could enjoy it one more time before we departed for...
Read moreWent to the downtown Da Boyz last Tuesday. The food and service are normally great. We did have a problem this time. After ordering drinks and water, we ordered a large salad for each couple to split and each of the four of us ordered entrees. Our salads arrived and we began to dish them out when our entrees also arrived. We told the young man we hadn't even taken a bite of our salads and weren't ready for the main courses. He said he would put them under the lamp and left. The waitress came over rudely stating that our food was going to get cold and she wasn't going to do anything about it. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager came over and we explained what happened. We also pointed out that there was no room on the table to put the entrees. He said he could remove the salads and dressings and they would fit. We hadn't even begun to eat the salads yet. We asked if it was normal for salads and entrees to arrive at the same time. He said the cooks usually begin to prepare entrees after the salad is served but this is not some high dollar place where you are served in courses. He then looked at our salads and told us it was our fault all he food arrived at about the same time because we ordered Buffalo chicken salad and it takes longer to prepare. But this time we had all lost our appetites and asked for our food to go. We boxed up the salads paid the entire bill and about ten minutes later left the restaurant. We never were brought the main courses we paid for, in fact the staff avoided walking by our table. Although the food is usually quite good here, I doubt we will go back. The waitress and manager were both rude and we did not get the meals even after we...
Read moreI ordered online and came to pick up my food, I parked where their sign for curbside is. I texted the number and waited. I figured they were busy so I tried to call 3 times. No answer. I then go to park a block away (didn’t want to hold up the curbside parking space) I walk In and give my name to the lady at the front. She told me to wait over to the side. I wanted curbside because I didn’t want to be inside of the restaurant. She goes to the kitchen and gets my food. She puts my food on a table next to the bar and waiting area and proceeds to drop an uncovered straw onto the table. She then put the straw into my bag of food. I asked her for a new straw because it landed on the table and the table is dirty. I don’t care if it was clean In their eyes. I don’t appreciate a straw falling on the table and then the lady putting it my bag. Get me a new straw. Sanitary should be important during these tough times. The employee started arguing saying the table is clean. I said I don’t care that’s not sanitary and I want a new straw. She really wanted to argue her position. I could care less if she wants to be right. I’m not going to argue. I’ve already been waiting an extra 20 min for my food and I just want a clean straw. I asked for the manager, she said she was the manager. I asked to speak to someone in a higher position than her. She explained that would have to be the owners. Your curbside pickup failed, the phone number listed failed 3 times and the “managers” customer service was horrible. Hopefully someone in authority reaches out to resolve the issue....
