“The Sofram Restaurant”

“The Sofram Restaurant” where the national, delicious dishes of the close knit Turkish people are combined, is situated in the heart of a downtown street in Nukus. It is my favorite place to hangout with people who like Turkish dishes, spicy food and cozy atmosphere! In spite of the exterior design, as you enter the place, a magnificent setting and antique stones which are decorated with the Uzbek’s Turkish and Karakalpak national things and the luxuries of modernity welcome you. Before arriving there, firstly you should book a table because it is very crowded with people ,especially at dinner time. But there is comfort for those who do not book any table and are waiting. There is a cozy lounge with aged leather armchairs and pictures of anything which is related to nationality. The menu is very well-designed. Their menu is in two languages: Turkish and Russian. But they do not have English language in the menu and mainly this one caused a little problem for tourists but thanks to the menu’s design, they will be able to order dishes by the pictures and from information about ingredients which is written near the dishes picture if waiters can speak in English and explain them. When we arrived, we ordered “Sigara Burek” “Menemen Sade”, “Lahmacun”, “Krishek Pide” and from salads “Kashik salad”, “Chingizxan”, “Patican salad” . Actually “Sigara Burek” and “Menemen Sade” Turkish people eat for breakfast and in menu also written the same. I have fun Turkish serial which is called “ For Family”. In this serial, the sister cooked “Menemen Sade” for breakfast for the brother. I liked “ Menemen Sade” because the taste was appetizing! Salads which we ordered all of them very tasty and from meal I liked the “Krishik Pide” the reason why the ingredients mixed and are appeared unusual taste. For drink we ordered tea, Turkish tea, Turkish coffee and with coffee unusual candy! Actually they have so many kids of teas and some kinds of alcohol. I like all meals, they are fingerlacking meals! All the products are fresh and cleanliness of Restaurant is very good! The speed of service is partly. You do not wait so much but the do not come so fast. Waiters do not have dress codes but they are very friendly and easy-going. From my researches Gender balance is equally. But I guessed the Waiters can not speak in English, they Speak in Russian fluently. Whether you are in indoor seating or outdoor seating, both of them the atmosphere very nationally and on background plays Turkish music. Unfortunately, they don't have a dancehall that’s why you can not dance here but they have rooms for guests and children. Happily, you can come with your children and family without any problem. Like the crowded people in outdoor also crowded with cars, near the restaurant do don have car-parking zone. Furthermore, I would not recommend here, who like arrive for eat with his pets because they are not allowed to take pets inside. The price is not valuable for both local people and tourists, you can pay here from any types of cards such as Humo, Uzcard, even Visa. Furthermore, I would recommend it for students, because they have WiFi and you need not to pay for it. So, for the reason why they have a large quality of service, tasty and spicy dishes, for checking on guests, for a cozy atmosphere and for responsible waiters, I highly recommend going to the “Sofram Restaurant”. I had a pleasant dining...

The Sofram restaurant There is a unique, luxury Turkish restaurant on Leningrad St which is near "Jipek Joli" hotel in Nukus. The restaurant is open from early 7.30 am till 11 pm and the contuct number is 913880005. I was there last Wednesday and I'd like to share my impressions, opinions of the place. I have been there for the first time and I found the location of the restaurant a bit confusing as it is on a narrow street, therefore the area for parking is limited. When you enter the restaurant there is outdoor seating that is convenient in hot seasons. There were pleading live green plants and flowers. Through there you can get in to the indoor hall and Restobar, along with the reception. Furthermore, there is a colourful children's room full of toys. The bathroom, toilet and almost every is so clean and tidy. The principal outstanding feature is that inside of the restaurant is decorated in Turkish style: lampshades, walls, sofas- all are in an elaborate mixture of modern and national design. Soft background music is available which make you feel Turkish atmosphere. As well as, there is a clothes hanger next to every seating. An affable stuff welcomed us at the entrance and led the inside. We were given the menu right away but fortunately, it was just in Turkish and Russian languages. Another unfavorable circumstance is that well-known Turkish cuisine didn't exist even though it was mentioned in the menu. We ordered variety of mouthwatering meals, salads fruit tea and assorted bread. Initially, we were served popular Turkish tea for free. Then, salads and main meal in about 20 minutes. We tried almost all of them for the first time, so we asked waiters futher information about the ingredients. There were sigara börek, menemon sade, lakhmacun, kārişik pide and baklava kebap. The most I liked were menomen sade and the main meal. The former is especially better for breakfast and not so spicy but contains nutritious ingredients such as tomato, onion, bulgarian pepper and aubergine. The latter is pretty yummy with meat, cheese, rice and tomoto. The meat was so soft, soapy and the cheese melting on it. To sum up, I recommend this place for pairs, friends and familiy gatherings. You can pay the check both in cash and by all kinds of credit cards. Although the price is a bit high, the restaurant offers palatable food and...

I would give a whopping five stars here but YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A SMOKING SECTION to get to the nonsmoking seating. I feel like I’m stuck in a time warp, when this thing existed 20+ years ago. Whilst you don’t smell the cigarette smoke in the nonsmoking area, you have to pay in the smoking section so you leave with that terrible stale smell on your clothes and in your hair. Yuck!

I also dinked stars bc the staff didn’t bother to say anything to an OBLIVIOUS mom who let her kids run around the restaurant. So that somewhat ruined the experience to have these brats sliding around.

As for the food, yum!!! I got the aubergine starter which was so hot I couldn’t eat it for 20 min! Also the lentil soup with bread. I like the slightly spicy red paprika? (maybe?) side dish that accompanies it to sprinkle in. I also ordered a Greek side salad with delicious tomatoes- couldn’t finish it so took for takeaway. I had a pot of mint tea throughout dinner. Finally a piece of baklava (they are giant, warning!) of which I ate only half, and a “brownie” (more like a chocolate cake) for takeaway. All in all, £12 (200,000 som) for my combined lunch + dinner!!

The servers don’t speak English well but there is an English menu and you’ll just have to point and smile. Google translate helps!

The excellent restaurant WiFi is great for social media.

The decor is lovely and there is enough spacing...

Wonderful Turkish restaurant which is very close to the Igor Savitsky Gallery. I would recommend going into the back restaurant as it has a much better ambiance and decor. There is a good selection on the menu. We had lentil soup and the hash soup, both delicious followed by the lamb in the oven dish, perfect. The beef in ceramic dish, was very tasty but lacked the beef (certainly not as the menu photo indicated), it only had morsels of beef.... the pot of green tea was good. Our waiter, Aydos, was excellent, very efficient and friendly with good English. He is a credit to the restaurant. They add on 15% service charge. In summary, very good portions and tasty for the price.
