Our first time dining at Madam Kwan's restaurant. We passed it around 1:30 p.m., and almost all tables were filled on a Friday. Hence, we decided to come back later for dinner after shopping. We returned at 4:25pm for early dinner and most tables were empty. We were promptly seated and provided menus and QR code for order taking. Within minutes of placing our order, the service staff began setting up our utensils based on our orders and intuitively asked if we'd like an extra plate for sharing. 👍 Orders were quickly served, and they were great! The Beef Rendang is very well cooked; juicy tender shredded beef with flavorful sauce. For those who have never tried this dish, the texture is something like pulled pork, but this is much more tender and fragrant. The Fried Kway Teow is closer to Penang style but not as dry, and this comes with a little 'wok-burnt' flavor. We're finishing up with a dessert around 5pm, and the dinner crowd is starting to pack this place. We raised our hands, needing extra spoons for our desserts, but all staff were too busy. I couldn't wait because our bus was arriving soon and had to get the spoon on my own. The supervising staff saw this and noted my action... he reciprocated with a 10 percent discount off our bill 😍 citing this is not supposed to happen, but they were truly shorthanded. It's obvious that customer satisfaction is a top...

A lot of things were out of stock already by then, but what disappointed me the most was how the Nasi Bojari was stated to still be available even though the rendang wasn't (and hence there was no nasi lemak beef rendang). Should've told me from earlier that the nasi bojari wouldn't have the beef rendang and that they would change it to something else, but that failed to be communicated after everything else on the table had been served and I was the only one left waiting for my food. Additionally, I was also told that it was to be exchanged to either sambal ikan bilis or sambal udang (prawn) but somehow the one that came out is assam prawn which didn't taste assam at all.. Probably the worst thing is that the rice didn't taste or smell great and was very dry, the fried chicken wasn't marinated evenly (there were chicken skin patches which were super salty but some which are bland, while the meat is tender but bland).

The other dish we ordered was thankfully the Nasi Lemak - curry chicken. The nasi lemak itself is superb, not overly strong coconut taste but was moist and juicy and fragrant enough that it stimulates appetite. However, the curry chicken was also a bit bland, along with the rest, i.e. sambal ikan bilis).

The vegetarian cantonese noodles is...

Definitely one of the must eats when I go the JPO. Came here for a late lunch/early dinner. The restaurant had a relaxed feel and in the very hot weather, a very welcoming and cooling air conditioning.

Ordering was a breeze, you could either order on the phone or just inform the staff what you wanted. The server was very relaxed and told me straight up what is the top 5 items.

We definitely love the chill environment and there was no ‘pressure’ to rush to order and we could be at ease just after some shopping and enjoy some much needed air conditioning.

We ordered the fried kway teow and a prawn broth in claypot, with the sides to share, a cold milk tea and a soy bean with grass jelly (nicknamed Michael Jackson, haha). Char kway teow had enough heat (wok hey), and the sides were very delicious. My favorite mini side is the otah, as it came with a thick slice of cucumber which was a good accompaniment. The star dish was definitely the prawn broth in claypot. The broth was very tasty and you could taste the freshness of the prawn. I definitely enjoyed the soup and finished the whole claypot of prawn broth.

We enjoyed our time here so much that we are very much looking forward to our next visit...

Came here to try some of their signature dishes. For appetizer, we ordered the mixed satay beef and chicken. We also got a fruit rojak. Mains were cantonese wat tan noodles and also the nasi lemak chicken curry. We also got a hot soy milk to share which was really good actually, it feels like home brew if that was a thing. The satay was very yummy, nice and sweet and the meat were tender. The fruit rojak was really not to my tastebuds. I think the sauce that they used must be marmite or something, very strong flavour that I don't totally enjoy. The wat tan noodles had good wok hay and the noodles was nice and soft like the cheong fun. The nasi lemak was just ok for me, I think this version is not what I normally prefer. I like the more sambal version of the sides. It also didn't have peanuts and the boiled egg was fully boiled. Overall still not bad tasting, but was below my expectations.
