I got sick as a result of food poisoning from this establishment, and it could’ve been entirely avoided had I stayed vigilant.
Scenario: I stopped by in the afternoon for a late lunch. The restaurant was completely empty and I was the only customer. Bad sign. Plus it was an abnormally hot summer day.
I ordered a drumstick as well as extra white meat with the standard serving of rice.
Although I didn’t think of it earlier, perhaps this anecdote can save you several days of pain, high fever, discomfort, etc.
The sauce, the pickles, the chili, were all laid out on the table. It was probably sitting there since the opening of the restaurant.
I don’t believe staff are given food, safety training like they are in Singapore or Japan, etc. so this is somewhat of a forgivable incident.
My suspicion is that I got sick from eating the sauce, which was sitting out on a hot summer day, not from the chicken. The chicken is fine, the sauce is bad.
Likely, it was out festering all morning and afternoon, and therefore problematic.
So, before you eat sauce that’s been sitting on the table all day, consider demanding that it come from the fridge or be freshly made. (-1 point since this restaurant is well established and this can’t be the first time)
Food: From an enjoyment standpoint, it is what it is. Vietnamese style chicken rice. Nothing extraordinary but similarly not bad.
Payment: super painful. Although they use a digital POS, and present the bill verbally or on the screen, they can’t locate the freaking QR code without having to call the manager. So they’re firmly slanted to cash.
Not receiving a paper receipt was a bit odd but I’m happy not to get BPA exposure from the thermal paper. (Neutral)
Overall: 3⭐️ restaurant minus for the issue covered above. A five star venue would improve on recipe, reception, service and payment friction.
Would I come back? Even without the food poisoning incident, no. The food isn’t sufficiently compelling for me to have to...
