Woefully expensive, each dish on average is around 140k-300k and the food does not represent the amazing culinary style of Vietnam. It may look pretty but it's lacking the passion and flavour.
We had to leave 2 out of the 3 dishes, as they were not good. The food looks beautiful but it's lacking in so many departments.
The woven noodles were a non-starter, the mock-meat incredibly underseasoned, had a horrible texture. I had to leave most of ths dish. You can get a much better option inrestaurants for a fraction of the price here (usually paying 55k for something like this, here it was 125k)
Whereas breadfruit was well seasoned, great start - but if you know breadfruit it is an incredibly dry and starchy fruit - best served with a sauce on the side or a condiment. Was it served with a condiment? No, it was dry breadfruit. Go to Indonesia, they'll do it properly for you.
The tofu came out tasting of fish, of course it's a vegetarian restaurant - so it's clearly seaweed that was used in the same oil to fry the tofu. The tofu tasted very fried without much seasoning, they stuck some fried crunchy bits on top which had bits of chilli which were good but not much else.
The staff were incredibly friendly though. I did let the staff know, that they were great - but the food was unfortunately not. It really wasn't good. In all my years in Asia, I've never left dishes like that.
I hope they can take this as a critique on those dishes and work on them - they need more flavour. Channel that Vietnamese flavour!
PS - They do not bother to serve you water. Not serving water with the meal is outrageous when you're paying 500k. How can a restaurant where we pay 40k for two meals serve water/tea but a restaurant where we pay 500k can't even serve a courtesy...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying, my family and I are devout carnivores. Steak? Bring it on. Burgers? Pile 'em high. So, trying a vegetarian restaurant for New Year's Eve was... well, a leap of faith. But boy, did we land on cloud nine!
The "wonderful wonderful taste" wasn't just hype. Every bite was a symphony of vibrant seasoning and creative textures. The Satay Mushroom was a revelation – smoky, sweet, and oh-so-meaty (in the best plant-based way). And the 3-layer tofu? Forget tofu, that was pure magic – pillowy soft inside, crispy on the outside, and bursting with savory goodness. Even my grandma, the fussiest eater, couldn't stop praising it.
Now, let's address the elephant in the herb garden: the price. Yes, it's not your average diner fare. But hear me out – the experience we had was priceless. The explosion of flavors, the joy of discovering new favorites, the shared family moment of stepping outside our comfort zone? Worth every penny.
However, I gotta be honest – the desserts and drinks left me a little deflated. They were good, sure, but not mind-blowing, and definitely not worth the premium price tag. Stick to the star of the show – the incredible food!
Final verdict: Carnivores, vegetarians, and everyone in between – listen up! If you're looking for a tastebud adventure, Shamballa is your holy grail. Just skip the overpriced sweet endings and focus on the plant-powered perfection they dish up. Your taste buds (and maybe even your grandma) will thank you.
Rating: 5/5 for the food, 3/5 for the desserts and drinks. Overall, a plant-powered paradise!
P.S. Don't be shy, fellow meat-eaters! Embrace the veggie journey – you might just...
Read moreWhy on earth is there a 300,000 VND cover charge per person for an inside table at 6pm just because there is a fireworks display outside at 9pm that we wouldn't be able to see anyway?
EDIT:
Wow! Your response is absolutely appalling and you should be ashamed. We arrived at 6:15pm, not 6:40pm and we were never shown to a table nor were we requesting a rooftop patio table. You must be thinking of another customer, which would indicate that we are not the only ones who felt this way. We would have been quite happy to sit inside without a view as we knew we were there too early to see the fireworks. But to pay 300,000 VND each on top of the price of our meal is ridiculous. Had we wanted to sit on the rooftop to watch the fireworks then yes, we would understand the additional charge. We have been to your restaurant before as well as taken your cooking class. But this just feels like a greedy money grab.
EDIT #2:
It looks like you completely edited your initial response so as to not come off looking too bad. Bottom line, we were told there would be a cover charge to dine with you tonight. We were not presented with any other options, so we choose to leave. Your reply to the complaint was unprofessional and you were the one who escalated and made it personal. We expected better, especially based on your Michelin award and our previous experiences. Sadly, we were very...
