decent restaurant. super famous in can tho. service is under-averaged. prices are questionable.
let’s start with the bad. we asked for extra lettuce for a dish we were having. they had a basket of lettuce and herbs with the dish but it wasn’t enough so we asked for extra lettuce only. they gave us another basket of lettuce and herbs. we took it anyway because we assumed it was free. we ended up not finishing neither baskets because 1, we don’t eat all that herbs. 2, some lettuce pieces are unwashed (there was dirt on them).
they didn’t inform us about the price of the basket, and we thought that it was free because IT’S LITERALLY EXTRA LETTUCE AND HERBS. bills came out, 60K VND FOR A BASKET OF LETTUCE AND HERBS. i complained with them about not informing customers that it costs more (and 60k vnd man?). i also said that they took back the baskets when we asked for the check without asking our permission (BECAUSE WE PAID FOR THEM). they were going to scam customers - making customers pay absurd amounts and then take back leftover leaves, wash them, and serve them for other customers. also i said that the lettuce was dirty. after a good 15 minutes of arguing, they didn’t charge us for the basket, bad service :)
food. they were actually pretty decent. some memorable dishes were the snails with peppercorn sauce, grilled cobia fish, and a bánh xèo-like dish with tiny shrimps (this is the one where they have dirty lettuce available to eat with).
overall, food is actually good, but service is a bit iffy. would i come back? yes, but i will pay extra attention to the...
Read moreGood things: Location and design: This place is located in a super favourable position, near the riverfront and has a great view of the city symbol bridge, sculpted the beautiful layout to take full advantage of the natural beauty of mekong delta surrounding it. You can choose either to sit inside the main hall or outside near the river. Menu: They serve most of typical Vietnamese dishes, specialties are southern traditional cuisines, of which the ingredients mostly come from rivers. They also have some Western style dishes as well. Food: If you are familiar or getting familiar with Vietnamese cuisine, there are some good Vietnamese dishes there. Some dishes are mixed with a little bit Western favour with a light touch of western food display/decor. Price: The price is reasonable, a bit higher than other food vendors or small restaurants along the streets but still acceptable, not cheap but not expensive either. Atmosphere: cozy, authentic, sometimes they have a live band performing some kinds of Southern Vietnamese traditional music. Things need to be improved: The staff seem quite untrained and probably with little or no experience of western dishes. Waiters and staff can speak little English, menu has English translation so not too difficult in ordering what you want, but still a negative thing though. Service: The staff, they don't usually pay attention, and keep an eye on the customer. You may have to wait for a while for the dishes that you order, especially when it gets...
Read moreIt was raining "kittens and puppies" when we got to the venue. But lo and behold, the staff came prepared. They welcomed us with great smiles and umbrellas. Once we stepped into the dining area, I was immediately surprised by the vastness of the space. The atmosphere was very lively. Large groups of patrons were scattered throughout, merrily filling their tummies with food, booze and laughter.
We settled at the back. The staff kindly repositioned our table to avoid intermittent rain splashes and then, it was set-up nicely.
Now for the food, a few dishes were ordered - calamari, spring rolls, fried rice, toasted rice with dipping sauce, grilled gobies, clam soup, mi xao chay (which I realized was actually vegan auntie's dinner :p), salad and lastly, a seafood hotpot. Everything was amazing but for me, the toasted rice stood out. Imagine crispy rice coated with a sweet and salty thick syrup with bits and pieces of pork, spring onion and whole pepper kernels. Wash it down with ice cold beer. And repeat. It was truly enjoyable.
Our dedicated wait staff KD (I forgot the name but those are the initials) was very attentive to all our needs. From menu provision to overall table management, we had no complaints.
In summary, our experience was awesome and I definitely recommend this venue. This place is best for group...
