BARBAROS — Restaurant in Hà Nội

Edited review - this is our second visit:

After receiving the response to our first review (below), we decided to give it another go. Once again, we got off to a bad start - When we arrived at 4:30pm on Friday - they said they did not open until 5pm (their page says 4pm!). So we went next door to the Philippine place and enjoyed a few rounds of drinks. We eventually came back around 6:30. Ordered a round of Sapporo draft and a beef burger for our kid to get started. A few mins later “sorry sir, Sapporo is out of stock”, 8 mins later “Sorry sir, we have run out of beef for the burgers”.

Pork ribs were dry. We ordered mix veg as a side to go with the ribs - the veg was exactly the same as the veg with the ribs (see photos). We had 4-5 rounds of drinks and once again - had to call out each time as the staff member was standing in front of the fan with his back to the customers.

What a shame :-(

First review….

We were exited to finally come here after passing it so many times. We sat outside on one of the street tables. It’s a great looking restaurant and the menu looks awesome. They gave us food and drink menus. We ordered one dish to get us started and a round of drinks. When the first dish arrived, they told us there would be no more food until 6pm (it was 4:30pm at this stage). We have no idea why, as there were only 3 other tables. Anyway…we said we would wait. Then the service team disappeared! We had around 5 rounds of drinks and I had to go inside to the bar each time to order. Our empty glasses would just sit on the table. Only one staff member walking around - but he paid no attention to the actual tables - only if you called out to him like the other tables were doing. When I go inside to order at the bar each- there were 2-3 staff in there enjoying the air con, but no actual customers in there. We finally reached 6pm so we could order, but at this stage we were so annoyed we went to the Greek restaurant instead - which is always great food and service. Very disappointing first experience...

Poor service. Only customer in the restaurant, yet refused a table due to a large party reservation. Long wait for my food which I ordered to take away. Food arrived (still no other customers in sight) after a 30 minute wait. Burger was dry and tasteless, I'm talking McDonald's quality. Garbage place, average food, poor customer service. Go somewhere else.

Furthermore, I was aware that you were fully booked, I was asked to sit at the bar, then a little while later asked to move because I was "in the way". I was the only person in the restaurant! So I asked to takeaway, I had no problem with taking away. But there is absolutely no excuse for a 30 minute wait for a burger and fries when you had only one cutomer. My food should not have taken more then 5 minutes. Then again the patty and fries, were clearly frozen, hence the reason for the long wait and thee reason they were dry and tasteless. The food was garbage, I'm sorry but that's just a fact, the meat was dry, the vegetables weren't fresh and neither was the bun. The fries were served cold and clearly not made fresh, frozen, from a bag. Hanoi has excellent restaurants serving quality food at competitive prices. Your restaurant is not...

I went to Barbaros sunday brunch (499k/pax)

In Hanoi and probably whole Vietnam, this is the best bang for your buck.

The ribs seasoning is tasty, chicken is moist, sausage are handmade (compared to horrible industrial sausage in Vietnam) and the smoked brisked melt in your mouth.

We also indulge with draft beers, cocktail and special dish like seafood paella. I was surprised at how good their french fries were. So crispy.

Barbaros deserves a lot of praise, and hopefully people shopping at Lotte Westlake walk a bit to this BBQ instead of eating mainstream Gogi House.
