Really quite disappointed after visiting this restaurant. My fiancée and I are both from the UK and of Indian heritage. We were excited to have some good Indian food.
The food was okay. We had asked for extra spicy but the food was mildly spicy. I don’t think it’s great for Indian people.
The waiters were all young and very nice. But we were left waiting over half an hour for chapatis with our curry. We ordered them before a large group came in and asked for them a few times. After about half an hour of waiting (and curries going cold) we were asked by the waitress to change our order as the chef is now making food for the large group and that chapatis take a long time to make.. chapattis take about 40 seconds to make so this wasn’t really a great response. Interestingly more expensive food items were being made and given to people who came in even after we were given curries.
It was more frustrating as it seemed all of the staff suddenly started faffing and attending to the big group as soon as they came in. And forgetting or refusing to offer chapatis with a curry after a long time of waiting isn’t really acceptable.
We asked to speak to the manager and our very young waitress who had been waiting on us claimed she was the manager. Meanwhile the lady who was quite obviously the manager refused to acknowledge any issues and didn’t attend to us when requested. There was no accountability or apology and rather we were told by waiting staff our order wouldn’t arrive.
It felt like we’d wasted time just waiting for food that didn’t come and left in the end and asked to cancel further orders as they didn’t know how long they would take to arrive. And the way we were ignored for the issue was also quite poor. We left hungry.
The waiting staff were kind and polite but the manager should really hire enough staff to accommodate for a whole restaurant. And she should also try and offer some customer support/ the waitresses shouldn’t claim they are managers and offer no apology or compensation.
All in all I wouldn’t recommend this place and I hope they improve their service the next time they have a large group.
Also there were no Indian staff visible so that might explain why it didn’t taste quite...
Read moreMy recent visit to Spices Taste of India in Hanoi left much to be desired, particularly when it came to the highly anticipated thali. I strongly advise against ordering the thali, as it was a dismal representation of what one would expect from an Indian restaurant.
To begin with, the thali lacked essential components like pieces of chicken or fish. It was astonishing to find that the protein elements were either minuscule or completely absent, leaving the thali devoid of the variety and substance typically associated with this traditional Indian dish.
Adding insult to injury, the portion of rice served in the thali was nothing more than a small cup, reminiscent of what you might expect to be served with sambar in a standard Indian restaurant. The inadequacy of rice and absence of significant protein elements made the thali a far cry from a satisfying and balanced meal.
The pricing of the dishes at Spices Taste of India further exacerbated the disappointment. The overall quality and quantity of the food simply did not justify the high price point. It's disheartening to pay a premium for a dining experience that falls short in delivering on the basic expectations of an Indian restaurant.
On a somewhat positive note, the ambience of the restaurant is commendable. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the lack of a significant lunchtime crowd allowed for a relatively peaceful dining experience.
In conclusion, while the ambience at Spices Taste of India may be inviting, the glaring shortcomings in the thali offering, combined with the overpricing of dishes, make it a regrettable choice for those seeking an authentic and satisfying Indian dining experience in Hanoi. There are undoubtedly better options in the city that offer more value for money and a true taste of...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of returning to Spices Taste of India after quite a long gap, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The restaurant’s decor has been refreshed, offering a cozy and inviting ambiance that makes you feel right at home.
The food was absolutely excellent. The Gobi Manchurian was particularly outstanding—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. We also enjoyed a variety of other dishes including the Paneer Tikka, Dal Makhani, and Bhindi Masala, each of which was delicious and cooked to perfection. The breads, soft and warm, complemented the dishes wonderfully.
For dessert, we had the Shahi Tukda, which was a hit—my American friend couldn’t stop raving about how much they loved it, savoring every bite.
The service was top-notch. The staff was attentive, and the owner even came by to check on us, asking for feedback on the quality of the food. It was refreshing to see that kind of genuine care and interest in customer satisfaction.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit....
