My friends and I planned a day trip to Hoi An and decided to book a cooking class with Chef Thanh as part of our itinerary. We arrived much earlier than scheduled, yet he and the landlady for his restaurant were so kind, allowing us to sit and rest while awaiting the start of the class. Chef is very amiable and made everyone feel comfortable. The food was incredible, even for someone with picky tastes like me who is slowly trying to expand their palate. The mango salad is the nicest new thing I have tasted in a long time, the broth for the pho was refreshing and reminded me of hearty home cooking, and as for the spring rolls, I’m sure I could eat 3 plates - yum! The class accommodates for those with dietary requirements (one of our group is Muslim and halal meat was not so easy to come by in the places we went to in Vietnam, but Chef made sure to arrange a separate vegetarian menu cooking class so that she could also get involved in the class and enjoy with us). A big thing for me for this rating is Chef’s cleanliness. I have mild cleaning OCD, and it is very comforting to see that the things I’d notice that others might not, he was already aware of and doing it (e.g., tracking and replacing tasting utensils with clean ones to avoid double dipping, cleaning surfaces as we went, changing gloves if handling meat or touching different things to prevent cross-contamination, etc). I very much recommend the class to anyone planning a visit to the area. I will try to recreate the meal we had for my family now that I am back home, I can only hope to do Chef justice! 😂 Thank you for a great time Chef Thanh! Wishing you...
Read moreMy wife and I had a fantastic experience with Chef Thanh. His cooking class is so much more than that, it’s a unique moment that you’d have the pleasure of stumbling upon your time in Vietnam. Chef Thanh is so passionate about cooking, storytelling and teaching people from all over the world about Vietnam. He has so many years of experience cooking all over the world! We met Chef the day before the class and tried some food from his restaurant which is also his home. His wife and kids are also very lovely and add to the experience. We knew that the next day we were gonna have a great class after being so impressed with his cooking. It was only us and a lovely Dutch couple that we became acquainted with for the whole day. If you know anything about cooking classes you know that having 4 in the class is very exclusive. Not only was this one of my favourite days of a 5 week trip to Vietnam but a day where my wife and I made...
Read moreYesterday afternoon when I arrived at my hotel I checked the area for some lunch. I came across The Lantern Restaurant. When I got there I saw that they also did Cooking-classes. I really wanted to participate in one of the chefs lessons so even though that I was on my own, he made time for me. He picked me up at 9 at my hotel and we drove to the marked to get fresh fish and chicken (you can pick what you want to make so it’s also good for vegan). We drank some coffee and moved on. After that we went to a local field where they planted there own vegetables whiteout chemicals. We went back to his restaurant where I had great lunch the other day and I was excited to start cooking. He explained what everything was and what it does to the flavor of the food. We cut, talked and had a good time. It was so much food that I could barely finish it all. I had an amazing day for such a little...
