Absolutely amazing local, cultural and culinary experience! Such a warm welcome from Linh and her husband to their beautiful spot on the river, which indeed had a very refreshing “breeze”. After a welcome drink of our choice we headed out on the basket boats with “ma and pa”. We got to experience first hand the beauty of the river, countryside and people, and despite the obvious language barrier we all had lots of fun and laughter. When it came to the cooking class Linh our cooking hostess not only had exceptional culinary and teaching skills, she had an excellent command of the English language, with a great sense of humour (including sarcasm which is such a rare talent in a second language). On the menu was Vietnamese savoury pork pancake, fresh papaya and mango salad with beef / shrimp, a banana leaf bbq dish (shrimp for hubby and chicken for the rest of us) and eggplant clay pot. Most ingredients were grown organically in their garden and picked and preprepared for us. Linh catered for our food intolerances and adjusted the ingredients accordingly as 3 of us do not eat seafood. She also showed us how to beautifully garnish a plate with a flower shaped tomato and a cucumber fan. It was such a valuable experience cooking together as a family, and our device-loving teenage girls also happily “smashed, sliced and diced”(without feeling the need to record every moment) and stayed engaged and entertained for the entire two hours cooking. Everything we made was so flavoursome and even my fussy children devoured everything that we made. Linh was an excellent host and teacher and we cannot recommend the whole experience highly enough to anyone visiting Hoi an. My non-cooking husband who was dragged practically kicking and screaming said after that it was one of the best things he’s ever done on holiday (apart from surfing and golfing 🤣). It was authentic, with super delicious food and a delightful way to spend half a day. Linh and her hubby are a lovely local couple with lots of stories about food, local life and culture. If the quality of the food that us four novices managed to crank out is anything to go by we can also highly recommend you visiting the restaurant for the experts to show you how delicious and flavoursome food can be. Hands down five stars. We all...
Read moreWe rarely leave reviews but this special place deserves high praise. This little restaurant is what Vietnam and Hoi An felt like ten years ago before today’s crowds of tourists. The food is excellent, the prices are cheap and the view at sunset is spectacular. But the reason you should visit is the owners Lin and Thin. They are the friendliest and kindest people you will ever meet, and their smiles fill the atmosphere with joy.
In our first 7 days in Hoi An, we ate at the restaurant twice for dinner and the food and service was excellent. Then we went for the morning cooking class and that was truly wonderful. First, we went on a basket boat ride with 2 locals and explored a part of the river far away from the typical tourist boats. The boat guides sang to us and made us keepsakes out of palm branches. Afterwards during the 3 hr cooking class, we made 4 dishes with Lin teaching us. Lin used to be a teacher at one of the big cooking schools in Hoi An, but at her own restaurant she will give you the personalized teaching you really want. She is funny, caring and gracious. She was also wonderful with our 12 year old children, making them feel extra welcome and giving them special attention. The food and the recipes are authentic, easy to prepare and delicious. The course is also cheaper than most cooking classes and includes the boat ride as an extra bonus. All her classes will be personal as they are limited to 6 people max. Lin also speaks outstanding english.
Over the past year, we have travelled to 30 countries and taken 10 cooking classes. This was the best cooking class we have done by far and one of the most friendly restaurants we have visited. You will not regret taking a cooking class here. If you don’t have time for a cooking class, go 1 hr before sunset for drinks and then stay for dinner. It’ll be your best...
Read moreIt's been a week in Viet 🇻🇳 and it is the greatest experience we have had. The food is magnificent - delicious, colorful, and fresh/organic. We visit restaurant everyday, trying new dishes, and they are all great. Its insane. As a vegetarian, I had pak choi, eggplant pot, and bahn xeo. My wife took meat dishes. It is a sensual feast and stays with you for long.
Restaurant is a little bit hidden- you need to turn to a small street, which doesn't look like going to anywhere. But there is a sign with restaurants name on a turn. It is next to the river, so the view is quite nice, relaxing.
Last but not least, there is a cooking class option. It wasn't something we honestly fought about, but because of a wonderful food, I wanted to bring some of that back home to share a bit of vietnam 🇻🇳 with friends. It was great. We asked for dishes we loved the most and had a class (just two of us). I could write a lot about it, but to keep it short - funny, informative, professional. Chef is very modest but she worked in the top restaurants and used to teach foreginers viet cousine. She left it to run her own business, slower, organic, and passionate.
We love the place, we love the food, we love its philosophy and...
