Being a vivid coffee drinker from Melbourne, as well as I appreciate the more "funky" cafe's (preferably quiet hangout places) - I also love to try new flavors and new drinks - so I went especially to this place to try this amazing coconut coffee others raved about.
My G such a complicated casual visit !
This cafe' is part of the hostel by the way (as you might already read it has an indoor and back part area towards the beach, which is lovely by the way when kept clean)
Well, first of all when we came in (decided to seat ourselves in the corner with the nice looking low chairs) - none of the staff bothered to come and take the order but probably waiting for us to come up to them. After 5 min and having the person 3m away seemingly waiting for me to order, I simply walked up and asked: "What put inside papaya juice "? (tried to make it simple to understand). She did not. I tried again " What do you put inside the Papaya juice? Papaya? Water? Sugar? Ice?" Still did not understand. Not even an answer. "Sugar in juice?" "Me not want sugar"., I tried. She just looked at me, and after a while turned around to another staff for assistance (who spoke English quite ok). I was finally able to order a juice, without the added syrup. Phew. That was more hard work than usual. (I do not blame her for not understanding everything, but expected her to understand something as she is working where does, and also, some kind of communication, body language or what have you, would have been more pleasant. But nope.
I also order this famous coconut coffee and a mango juice.
The fancy curly straws were slightly hard to drink from as juices were quite thick. Juice tasted ok (probably nicer with sugar/syrup, haha ), nothing special.
Coconut Coffee was coldish (due to the cold topped up coconut milk). It was very filling though, more like a snack! Flavour was ok, nothing over the top for me, but I appreciate the fact that they make their own coconut milk (I had several small coconut shells in the drink /mouth so figured they must have done that, which is great).
Time to pay - oh my - here we go again.
The very same girl argued with the change I tried to help her with (maths might not be her strength, or she is just someone who goes on automatic and have difficulties when something new all of a sudden pops up). Will not go into details as my feedback starting to become like a half an essay. But extremely complicated to deal with the particular staff this day. It actually ruined the experience itself, which ones again shows how important the software is, no matter industry...
Very average experience - to ME (maybe I am just too demanding/fussy as I actually eat/drink out 1-2 times every day in my daily life, and have done so for the last 20 yrs. And also being very particular with food, drinks, and service, no matter a hole in the wall or fine dining.
Enjoy your...
Read moreI came here because of all the good reviews. We are staying in Hoi An since December and keep on coming back to sound of silence . The outside area is absolutely stunning! Enjoying the view at the ocean with their super delicious coffee! We love to chill here and meet friends for playing cards or just to hang around. It is also super nice to use their sun beds. They don’t push you to order something while using them. It was a hard time during lockdown not able to be at their lovely property. Their hot Latte is my favorite. They do serve some foods and sweets. I highly recommend the coconut coffee if you are up to a real taste. I tried a few around hoi an and an bang. Quite disappointed in the sweet and cold milkshakes which doesn’t taste like coconut.Sometimes you get a cup of coffee with just cold coconut ice cream in it,what a mess. It is different here at Sound of Silence! They use fresh coconut meat for the coffee. They mix it with fresh milk and sweetened condensed milk(I ordered it without the condensed milk for a better taste). You get the water from the coconut in an extra glass.Super delicious! It is one of our favorite places around!! Love their music and chilled atmosphere! Thanks for this...
Read moreLarge restaurant on the beach in Hoi An. The whole place has a cool "organic" vibe, but the food and dishes don't really reflect this.
There are many seats spread out in the back of the restaurant towards the sea and the beach. It can probably be quite windy to sit right by the beach at times.
We had Fried Chicken Noodles, which was below average. The noodles tasted like instant noodles. The whole dish was quite tasteless, salty and oily.
I had Grilled Chicken with Lemongrass. This was not what I would call grilled chicken, but more like deep-fried chicken (without breading). The whole dish was incredibly salty and oily. I felt completely numb in my mouth after eating this dish.
The children each had a plate of pancakes. This was a much better dish with nice pancakes and fresh fruit.
We saw someone at the next table who had ordered a BLT, here the bacon was 50% fat which they sat and removed before eating it.
An ordinary cup of Americano coffee costs 40k. Which I find a bit steep.
If this restaurant had been located somewhere else, it would have gotten an even lower rating from me. Will not be back.
They also don't accept cards, only cash. Which is very strange in...
