Updated: Uchi has now expanded and has more tables for you to enjoy. Updated menu requires an updated review.
A small, cozy sushi spot located off the beaten path in D4. The service here is spectacular, the food and value (for the buffet) makes it my current go-to place for not only sushi, but Japanese in general. From rice bowls to udon... nigiri, sashimi, and unique rolls (we are going to try the Mango Roll next visit)- Sushi Uchi has something for everyone.
We started with the grilled mackerel, followed by shrimp tempura (the only menu item I found not to my liking, maybe frozen, not fresh)... some miso soup, steamed egg custard.
The quality of the nigiri definitely surprised me- fresh octopus, seared salmon belly, grilled unagi (eel), fish roe, and salmon.
We shared the rainbow roll and a bowl of udon to finish. The value and quality at Sushi Uchi will keep us coming back for more.
I actually texted and sent photos to all my fellow expats inviting them to try Sushu Uchi while we were seated. What a great find, we plan to...
Read moreIt took 15+ minutes to be seated which was okay. Though from what I can tell, they were not that busy. The challenging part came after. It took a long while before we could order. They only had one waitress taking orders with several runners. But the waitress was also completing running work. Like cleaning tables and other miscellaneous tasks. After we finally ordered, the food took a while to come out. And it was heavily staggered. One dish came out, 10 minutes the next dish. The food that came out was good. Specifically the fish dishes. Salmon nigiri and sashimi were good. The mackerel was crispy and had a delicious flavour. The eel was not slimy and the sauce was not overpowering. The non fish dishes were sub par. Curry chicken was okay until you got a hit of something that tasted like instant seasoning. The wasabi was spicy in an odd way. It was spicy to the mouth and not to the sinuses(nose). Tasted wrong.
They also offered ice cream for leaving a review. That may explain the...
Read moreWe visited on a vibrantly busy day on a Tuesday evening when they have their weekly 50% off on sake sashimi, which is a keeper and one of the reasons why I keep coming back, of course, on such a good deal, and on top of their not-so-pricy menu already. To my surprise, they expand the venue to the next-door store space, with more open space seating areas. The owner was on the site to direct the flows, so the services were decent, and staff were somewhat attentive. The quality of the sashimi was a bit off, not as fresh as the other days I had stopped by. This will continue to be my go-to place for weekday sushi, but I'm looking forward to seeing improved quality or at least, maintaining their current quality and services. It would be a disappointment to see the place goes down in quality while they expand their business. The oysters, raw and grilled, were the...
