AVOID THIS TOUR! Try another provider somewhere else for the coconut boats!
What we expected to be a relaxing ride through the waterways with some fun spinning ended up being one giant way to extort money from tourists.
Everything was going well until our guide stopped, got out, and took some photos of us on my iPhone while another guy took pics on a DSLR. We loved the iPhone pics but the other guy kept insisting I bought another coconut boat where a person with a computer would sell you a printed photo for 70,000VND. We tried to repeatedly say we didn’t want this but I think they used the language barrier to their advantage until we relented and bought a photo just to make it end.
Then there were multiple stages set up with singers all signing Gangnam Style on repeat and bringing guests on stage to dance (and expecting tips). We were visibly unenthused so thankfully our guide moved on pretty quickly without us paying anything.
Then there was a fisherman where our guide asked if we wanted to throw a net (for money of course). We declined but saw other tourists do this. Finally there were the larger boats that spin more violently. I had enough spinning in our boat and we didn’t want to pay any more so we skipped that too but it was offered many times.
All of it just felt kitchy, inauthentic, and like a way to extract as much money from tourists as possible. I wish they’d just charged more for the tour and never expected any more money along the way. This experience left a very sour taste in my mouth.
After we got off the boat and were waiting for our ride back to Hoi An, someone came over with water coconut for us to try, but he also was very pushy asking for a Google review. I politely said I’d do it later because I didn’t want to feel pressured into a fake 5 star review which I’m pretty sure most of these here on Google are. I’ve attached another review I found here on Google that is right...
Read moreBooked a coconut boat ride with lunch and buffalo ride the night before and Phu the owner replied promptly and organised her husband and brother Long and Noi to pick us up from our hotel the next morning.
They guided us through rice fields and explained everything to us. The ride was pleasant and gentle, and Noi helped us take videos and photos the entire time.
Buffalo riding was fun, definitely a highlight for us.
When we arrived at their shop, they served us lemon ice tea and let us rest for 10mins (which was much needed given how hot the day was). Then we hopped on a coconut boat and spent a good hour going around the coconut forest. We caught crabs, watched people getting spun and singing karaoke (you don’t have to, we chose to not opt in). The guide again took a bunch of photos and videos for us to keep as memories.
Upon returning to the shop, we were served some amazing food for lunch: Cao Lao, Bahn Xeo, spring rolls, salad and fresh cold coconut water.
The entire experience was one of a kind, and we couldn’t have asked for a better family to look after us than Long Phu’s. Truely a small family owned business that genuinely care for their customers, and they are passionate about making each persons experience one of a kind.
If you’re planning on visiting Hoi An and the coconut forest, don’t look elsewhere and let Long Phu look after you!!
Cảm ơn Long,...
Read moreBooked the coconut boat tour through Klook. Our guide (the boss of this place) took us on a scenic 30-45 min bike ride through the countryside, cycling on the side of the road and through some houses. We stopped to ride on a cute buffalo - you sit on it and the buffalo walks back and forth for about 10m - which was nice but honestly felt a bit bad for the buffalo though. 😅 Then we cycled to the coconut village whereour guide’s wife served us a passionfruit drink while we waited to get on the boat. The boat ride was quite nice, floating through the vegetation - though it was really quite packed with boats! There are a few “sights” during the ride: 1. A man spinning in a boat 2. Man throwing a fishing net 3. Karaoke “booths” aka coconut boats w a speaker where they row you over, and the guy blasts ONE Korean song and tries to get all of us to groove/sing along (they expect tips). But overall it was still a fun experience, the boat ride was smooth.
They served spring rolls and ban xeo and salad for snacks after which were super yummy!! Especially the spring rolls. The husband and wife were also really friendly and hospitable. It was a nice experience in the countryside outside of the touristy Hoi an area (even though this is arguably also touristy BUT nature 😛),...
