This place is excellent. We took a couple of hours to see it. Bottom to top. You can save $2 on the ticket for the Tower of History if purchased together, so we did. Walking up to the ship, there are kennels, free, to place your pet in so that everyone can enjoy the space inside. I appreciated that they opened up the coal shaft so you could see into there. That portion of the ship was interesting to explore. There is so much to take in on every level of the ship. Ir is ser up very well. We did go in and watch the mid to end of the movie playing. I highly recommend watching it. It was very informative of what happened on that shipwreck, I think it was the Carl D. Bradley. That movie is sold in the Gift Shop. Weird thing, I was fine in that space until I was leaving it, and then I was overcome with sadness. Almost cried. The Edmund Fitzgerald exhibit was the reason I came. The story behind those giant bouys is quite interesting. Take time to read it. I read every name on that wall, the 29 who lost their lives. Leaving that space, I was overcome with sadness. There were only 2 places on the ship that this happened. I find that quite interesting. And yes, I saw that Adam and Amy did an investigation on this ship for Kindred Spirits. The ship was a real joy to roam through, every inch that we did. I loved my time here. I highly recommend this tour.

This is fantastic! ๐คฉ Brilliant ๐ก idea to have a museum about cargo shipping inside of a period cargo ship!๐ณ๏ธ I can't imagine the cost of maintaining a floating relic like this. ๐ค There's so much to read๐งพ and learn and hear it's not possible in one day. Much documentation and displays about the history. There's even a poem in the engine room from a visitor who actually worked on the ship when he was a teenager! ๐ฒ Both lifeboats from the Edmund Fitzgerald are here ๐ฒ Another timely exhibit after the very recent passing of Gordon Lightfoot a famous Canadian singer. This is a fun and interesting museum. You must allow at least 2 hours. Plan to visit either before or after your Soo locks tour. Then visit the huge ship store.

The greatest ship museum in the upper peninsula! This is an actual lake carrier, used to transport iron ore for processing in the lower Great Lakes! The whole ship is free for you to explore, including top side! Aquariums show off local marine life as well as an array of shipping gear from the past as well as present! This ship is also a giant memorial to the tragic loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the last lake freighter to be lost at sea with all hands. From a video memorial, to actual pieces of the wreck, including lifeboats and the ships bell are on full display for you to enjoy. Come check out this piece of Michigan history today!

We make an annual trek across the US to vacation in our family cottage in the Les Cheneaux. We have never been to the freighter museum, and thus time had our 5 year old with us. We loved this attraction, as it is full of artifacts, historical equipment and descriptions, plus you get to walk ALL OVER the ship(certain locations are secured for good reason). We took our time to walk through every inch and took all the history in!! My son couldn't get enough of it, and kept us at a healthy pace. We are so lucky to have ties to the great lakes, and love that this is available to allow others to learn about this amazing history.

We enjoyed this low-key ship museum. It was fascinating to get an up-close look at the massive steam engine that powered this ship and to think about the extremely hard work the firemen did to keep the boilers fed with coal. They have a number of small exhibits about different shipwrecks on the Great Lakes as well as a large area dedicated to the Edmund Fitzgerald. We spent about an hour there but Iโd recommend allowing two hours of you want to see and read everything. Itโs awesome that all levels of the ship are accessible!
