I am posting this to share my experience at the Sault Ste. Marie Montana's location and to let the community know how horrible the service is at this location. I have never been to any restaurant with staff as rude as this place.
I called the restaurant on February 14th around 530pm to book the golf simulator for 830pm that night. The woman who answered the phone spoke very poor English and the language barrier was so bad that I had to repeat myself multiple times. I made sure I had the simulator booked at 830pm for 1 person. Please note that this was Valentine's Day and I confirmed my booking because I knew it would be busy in the restaurant. The woman took my name and number and confirmed my booking.
As I walked in, I set my clubs down by the simulator and one waitress glared at me from across the room shaking her head, giving me a dirty look like what are you doing here? I went to the front desk and told them I am here for the golf simulator at 830. I was not even greeted with a hello and the host behind the desk was a girl who did not understand what I was saying, was a different nationality and spoke very broken English. This was the girl who I booked on the phone with. The waitress who gave me the dirty look then came to assist her and said to me very rudely "you can't golf tonight it's Valentine's Day and there are people eating near the simulator". She did not apologize to me and proceeded to walk away. Speaking with the host again I said I would like to see the manager. The manager was extremely rude and said even though the host screwed up my booking I cannot golf and there's nothing she can do, even though it was their fault and booked me in for dinner instead of golf. I proceeded to tell her that I drove in from 20 minutes outside of town, I made sure to confirm my booking multiple times, and that there must be something they can do to compensate for the error the poorly speaking English host made. I asked if I can be re-booked for another night and given a free half hour or hour on the simulator because of the error they made. The manager proceeded to tell me that there is nothing they can do. I said that is extremely bad customer service and left the restaurant to go to another (more expensive) golf simulator at a different Sault Ste Marie location.
All that being said, I would like to say to the manager of Montana's Sault Ste. Marie, you should be ashamed of how poor your management skills are, as you have no idea how to treat a customer and clearly don't know how to hire qualified staff that known how to speak English and treat a customer with a little bit of respect. You lost a...
Read moreOur family went to Montana for my child's birthday. The restaurant was not busy at all. I saw lots of empty tables. As soon as we sat someone brought us the menu but after that no one was checking us for more than 15 minutes. I was trying to grab any server's attention since I didn't even know who the server was for our table but everyone who made eye contact with me kind of ignored that eye contact. They don't even try to find out why I was staring at them. Meanwhile a couple who came much later was served by a server who ignored eye contact. Eventually everyone started to get hungry and annoyed so I was waving with the menu. After that meaningless menu-waving for 10 minutes, the one who guided us to the table came to us and said, "No one has served you, yet? I'm so sorry!" Then a server/manager came and got orders from us.
We started to eat, someone came to check on us if the food was okay, and that was it. The server never came back for any further needs from us like refilling drinks or whatsoever. We had to do that meaningless eye contact again for another 5 minutes to get our soda refilled because we couldn't find our server. At that point we were very frustrated.
It was half price wing day with any order of drinks so everyone ordered drinks with wings, on top of that we ordered two more dishes. Eventually everyone got full and we had almost one dish of wings left so we asked for a take out box. That server/manager came with a take out box and told my husband that we are not supposed to take out leftover wings because it was half price wing day. I never heard any sort of BS from any restaurant we've been to! They didn't consider we were full because we ordered extra dishes. Were we supposed to eat wings first and take out the other food when they could get soggy? We've had enough! I just packed the food and paid and took off. I didn't even want to pay tips because the service was awful! We’ll probably never go back to Montana again. I don't know, it used to be a decent restaurant with friendly servers but something went wrong. It was an unpleasant experience on an important day! Thanks for ruining my child's...
Read moreI used to love Montana’s, and the chain is well run in southern Ontario. But this one is the worst run one in the chain. And it is all the managers fault.
There was one party in front of us, yet empty tables. We had to wait 40 minutes to be sat because they are low on staff. You are low on staff because you don’t manage them well. People don’t quit jobs, they quit people.
Then it took 40 minutes to get our order - 3 kids meals, a salad, and a Ribs. The kids were going crazy whining about how hungry they were. It was driving us adults crazy. I was told the kitchen was 30 minutes behind, set a timer on my watch, and it took 40 minutes to get the food. I was just about to leave in total frustration when the first part of the Kids order arrived. Ribs but no sides. And when the sides arrived later, they were cold. It is the manager’s fault when the kitchen is behind, kid meals aren’t expedited, and food is served cold.
I had AYCE ribs , the first refill came in under three minutes, which was amazing. The second refill came in 10 to 15 minutes. The third refill took half an hour. I gave up on ordering anymore. The restaurant was empty by the time we were finishing up, so I thought service would improve, but it did not. It took another 15 to 20 minutes just to get the bill. For the first time in my life, I was so fed up I thought about just walking out. I didn’t feel anyone would notice. Prompt billing and table turning is a key training aspect managers must impress on servers.
The bathrooms are atrocious and always have been the six years I’ve been coming. They stink, there are numerous air fresheners there rather than solving whatever the plumbing issue is. The women’s washroom is smoky, something from the kitchen is venting into it. My two girls wanted to show me how bad the women’s washroom was. When someone flushes a toilet, the handwashing sinks get super hot: Poor maintenance and bad facilities is the responsibility of the manager. Calling in a plumber to fix root issues should be a managers priority.
I won’t be returning, any other restaurant in the Soo is...
