Quite frankly this place is a tourist trap/ripoff. My family had never been here before and we decided to make the trek after reviewing the website and reviews. $8 per adult to enter the tower is ridiculous. We thought it was a museum but it's an elevator ride to a crummy observation deck that was decrepit and dirty. The windows were smeared with crud, the binoculars were dirty, the floors were filthy. The exposed cables in the stairwell with a bucket to catch rainwater was an added touch; it made me feel real confidence in the structural integrity of the tower with all the cracks in the cement. I probably wouldn't have written this review but the cashier acted like she really didn't want to be there; she was giving everyone (even other parties) dirty looks as they entered. The lavatories stunk and hadn't been cleaned in a few days. STAY AWAY. The Valley Camp boat museum is ten times better and more interesting to visit; the sad thing is both of these sites are operated by the same...
Read moreThe Tower of History offers an incredible view of the St. Mary's River and Soo Locks from 210 feet above. The view alone is well worth the cost of admission. But what really sets this attraction apart is the wealth of information available throughout the building.
As you climb the tower, you'll find numerous signs and displays that provide fascinating historical and cultural context for the area. From the fur trade to the development of the Soo Locks, there's so much to learn about the rich history of Sault Ste. Marie.
The tower itself is well-maintained and offers a smooth and easy ascent to the top. And once you reach the observation deck, the panoramic views are truly breathtaking. It's the perfect spot to take in the beauty of the surrounding area and snap some stunning photos.
Overall, I highly recommend the Tower of History to anyone visiting Sault Ste. Marie. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a stunning view, this attraction...
Read moreThe pamphlet for this tourist attraction is misleading as includes images from multiple locations / attractions in the area, each with different opening/closing times and separate ticket fees. The pamphlet makes it appear that all the images are from the Tower location itself, when some are from the ship museum down the street (on the Deep Valley ship) and I believe other pictures are from a third location that we did not visit. For the most part, the tower is simply an observation tower. $8.50 per adult ticket was reasonable for what it is. There are two outdoor viewing platforms at the top (upper and lower) with an indoor viewing area in between, where you can watch ships passing through the locks. We enjoyed the views from the various viewing areas. There is a minimal amount of “museum” type displays in the building to see as well. The tickets will get you a small discount at the ship museum down the road, and possibly at other nearby...
