Architectural marvel, former "Grand Splendid" cinema and theater, from a big part of my life, was bought by Ateneo Editorial. Kept it mostly, as it was it can offer you the grandiosity of all kinds of books and the other splendour: past - other times. Preserved painting/mural in its ceiling still is fascinating me like when I was a child. I used to go to watch a movie with my parents, and later some boyfriend, always contemplating at this majestic painting/mural as the architecture so pretty, with those balconies and angels. Now, balconies, galleries and angels as others decorating ornaments are still there, shinning under another type of lights and visitors, but Grand Splendid will be a cultural patrimony for generations to come, and to enjoy this wonderful representation of an era in Argentina. Read moreThis spot was a nice surprise for us. It is truly remarkable to see this space preserved and put to excellent use as a bookstore. I wish this had been done more in the U.S. as we instead just destroyed everything (typical).
The English section at the front of the store is quite small, but good enough. Even my 6-year old daughter found something there. It was really nice to eat on the stage. We actually sat "backstage" (on the side really) and got to see all the old light switch controls which was actually very nice.
