Chosen by National Geographic as the most beautiful commercial library, this placed used to be a theater where recognized artists from Argentina such as Carlos Gardel performed, offers a big amount of books that are perfectly organized to make them easy to be found, it also has a coffee shop inside and allows people to sit at the couches to read any book they choose

A great reused space turning an Edwardian Theatre into a bookstore. In North America MANY theatres were simply destroyed and seeing this space thriving was proof that North America takes buildings down without any feal thought process. The bookstore was bustling, the cafe' was vibrant, and many tourists were taking pictures and visually enthralled with the facility!

This bookshop is suited in a very old theater building. At the stage it’s possible to drink coffee with a small snack. It’s also possible to read a book in one of the ‘loges’ but it can by noisy because it’s very popular by tourists. El Ateneo also selling old CD’s and even record’s. It’s nice to spend some time and read a good book with coffee

Architectural marvel, former "Grand Splendid" cinema and theater, from a big part of my life, was bought by Ateneo Editorial. Kept it mostly, as it was it can offer you the grandiosity of all kinds of books and the other splendour: past - other times. Preserved painting/mural in its ceiling still is fascinating me like when I was a child. I used to go to watch a movie with my parents, and later some boyfriend, always contemplating at this majestic painting/mural as the architecture so pretty, with those balconies and angels. Now, balconies, galleries and angels as others decorating ornaments are still there, shinning under another type of lights and visitors, but Grand Splendid will be a cultural patrimony for generations to come, and to enjoy this wonderful representation of an era in Argentina. There are more in CABA and Argentina, that they have been restored or kept, otherd demolished. This is one saved from progress. Thank you Editorial Ateneo! for this effort pro culture and...

This spot was a nice surprise for us. It is truly remarkable to see this space preserved and put to excellent use as a bookstore. I wish this had been done more in the U.S. as we instead just destroyed everything (typical).

The English section at the front of the store is quite small, but good enough. Even my 6-year old daughter found something there. It was really nice to eat on the stage. We actually sat "backstage" (on the side really) and got to see all the old light switch controls which was actually very nice.

The food is just OK, but really, it's secondary to being able to hang out in such a...

Best place in Buenos Aires. Full of culture ,on books, music, paints as murals, architecture conserved in perfect state. A place to relax,be calm down, find new things open mind . Has a place for childrens but is on basement. Needs more seats to enjoy the place. The coffee store inside is really bad. Cafe bad tasted ,very expensive no a glass of cold water shared and sandwiches...
