The Galician Library of Bos Aires "Antonio Pérez-Prado" was born within the Federation of Galician Societies and operates in its headquarters. Inherits the enormous bibliographic and archival collection of this institution of the collectivity, which was born in 1921 with a progressive and republican spirit and traveled throughout the century promoting the culture of its associates and the entire Galician community.
In 1943, the Federation created the Curros Enríquez Athenaeum , which acted as the institution's culture commission and was in charge of the creation of a library. This grew over the years, benefited by the countless donations from individuals, large or small. Some of the most important are the following:
Colonel Francisco Galán, a republican soldier, whose family donated, after his death and by his will, a very valuable set of books and pamphlets referring especially to the Spanish Civil War, in its military aspect, both from the republican and Francoist vision. Spanish Republican Center, Spanish institution of intense life between 1930 and 1980. After its dissolution, donate archive and library to the Federation of Galician Societies. Antonio Salgado, member of the Spanish Republican Center and one of its last representatives in Argentina. Donate to the Federation its extensive and invaluable library, referring to Spanish political issues. López Silva, a donation that brings together various works on the history of Spain and the Spanish Civil War, of great historiographical value, coming from a republican family. Manuel Pedreira, important Galician nationalist leader exiled in Argentina. His daughters donate their library, made up especially of books, pamphlets, newspapers and various papers, of Galicianism in America. José González Ledo, Galician poet and journalist living since he was a child in Argentina. After his recent death, the family donates a vast library of Spanish and Galician literature. Sotelo Blanco Foundation, Galician institution linked to the Editorial Sotelo Blanco (Santiago de Compostela) and Ronsel (Barcelona). We receive from them numerous books of sociological value, encyclopedias, dictionaries, literature, etc., in Galician and in Spanish. Antonio Pérez-Prado (1926-2009): humanist physician, scientific disseminator, intellectual and Galician-Argentine writer, one of the great references of Galician culture in Argentina, and author of the fundamental Galician and Buenos Aires (1973). His family donated his important personal collection of more than 6,000 volumes to the Galega Library of Bos Aires, which since 2010 also bears his name. Editorial Galaxia, one of the first Galician publishers, in importance and seniority. He sends us his editorial fund, which includes literature, social sciences, children, youth, entirely in Galician. Ediciós Do Castro, Galician publisher linked to popular movements.
