Astronomical Observatory of Quito

This place is located right in the middle of one of the most iconic parks of this city, Quito. This observatory is as old as over 100 years, when the city was awakening to the modern times. Maybe this is not a modern facility but it has its own charm, so deep in your mind you can move to yourself back to those early years when the 20th century was the dawn of the new times. Very likable free guide (spanish), he didn't know everything but was honest about it. We were let in close to closingtime and allowed in "closed" areas. You are free to roam and take pictures. Sadly the use of the Metzger telescope was or is no longer possible in the evenings like it was before. The view from Quito's oldest park at the top of the observatory is lovely. Must see.

This could be a fascinating place to visit but activities and engagement are minimal. Also ,the building itself is run down and the garden is scruffy and unkempt.

They could encourage lots of events and informative days ,educationally.

They could have events under the stars. There is a beautiful bust in the garden.

I am still glad I went at $2,I had very little to lose.
