Established in 1968, Ararat Regional Art Gallery has a unique place amongst Australia's public galleries, through its longstanding commitment to supporting and promoting textile and fibre art - a curatorial and collection focus that began in the early 1970s.
The collection is located in the heart of Ararat in the historic late-Victorian Town Hall Building. The collection focuses on excellence, innovation and diversity in contemporary textile and fibre art practice, and on showcasing work of regional artists. The collection includes artworks by Juan Davila, Kate Derum, Richard Goodwin, Virginia Kaiser, Kay Lawrence, Sara Lindsay and Bronwyn Oliver, as well as international artists Olga de Amaral (Colombia) and Marcel Marois (Canada).
