The Colac Botanical Gardens is a hidden gem that offers a serene escape for nature enthusiasts. Designed by the renowned landscape gardener William Guilfoyle, the gardens are beautifully maintained and showcase an impressive variety of flora. The wide-open spaces make it perfect for picnics, leisurely strolls, or simply soaking in the tranquility of the environment.

One of the standout features is the majestic avenue of towering trees, many of which are over a century old. Their grandeur provides ample shade and a picturesque setting that feels both peaceful and inviting. The lake view adds to the charm, with plenty of opportunities for birdwatching. Ducks, swans, and other waterfowl can often be spotted, delighting both children and adults.

For families, the gardens include a playground and plenty of lawn space for kids to run around. There’s also a café on-site, serving coffee and light meals, making it convenient for a relaxing day out. The facilities are well-kept, with clean restrooms and ample seating scattered throughout.

What sets this place apart is its timeless appeal. Whether you’re a local or a visitor passing through Colac, the gardens offer a perfect spot to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It’s an ideal stop on the way to the Great Ocean Road or Otways.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quiet, scenic retreat that highlights the beauty of Colac and its natural surroundings. Bat...

Delightful regional botanic garden with many wonderful examples of mature trees of significance, a decent playground at the eastern end, and a lovely old cannon from HMVS Nelson: Rifled Muzzle Loading (RML) 6.3in 64-pdr 58cwt (58-2-20) Weight 6762lb Prep 743lb Book No.7930 Conversion No.1673 MC&T Casing No.910. The gun was manufactured 1862 as a Smooth Bore Muzzle Loading (SBML) gun and converted/rifled 1867 by W. B. Armstrong & Co. using the Palliser method. The views of the lake from the northern edge of the gardens are stunning due the height above the lake. There is a cafe at the western end near the main entrance (there are several other entrances) but unfortunately it was closed to a private function the...

A serene space to meander through and take in the beauty and energy of nature that overlooks Lake Colac. The gardens are very well maintained with many spots to sit and relax. Theres a cafe, toilets and a playground for kids of all ages😉. My only suggestion would be to stop cars driving through as many drove too fast and most likely didn't get to enjoy what was on offer and plus its a safety issue. There's plenty of parking outside so maybe restrict the access to walking only. Definitely worth...

Gorgeous spot, I will be back in summer to see the rose garden in all its glory! Right as you walk in the gate - there’s a little box attached to a post that holds a brochure type map and info about the gardens. Great walking tracks - if you’re going in the wet months then bring your grippiest boots, it’s a bit muddy in some spots 😅 Got to see some bats which was pretty cool! The lookout to the lake was gorgeous. Don’t forget about the best little cafe right beside the gardens!
