My partner and I visited Colac yesterday and spent quite a while trying to find the ultimate venue for breakfast. I was looking for something a little bit unusual, besides standard bacon and eggs etc. We entered the cafe and were greeted in a very welcoming manner by the owners. We started off with coffee and the female owner recognised that we wanted it strong and it was a great start to our visit. We then chose to try one of the beautiful looking home-made beef sausage rolls sitting in the warmer. Additionally, we ordered a Middle Eastern lamb pastry and decided to share both of the dishes. To our surprise, we were given some complimentary home-made sourdough topped with olive oil, feta cheese and black olives as a starter. The bread was genuinely probably the best I’ve ever eaten in my life and the owner went onto tell us that she had made it that morning after a 48 hour fermentation process. Small gestures like this are uncommon these days and we were just so incredibly grateful. The two dishes have followed were phenomenal. The Middle Eastern pastry was served in a yoghurt sauce and a small amount of sumac. We couldn’t leave the restaurant without ordering a couple of sweets. We chose Turkish delight and it was coated in the most beautiful chocolate. Our visit to this cafe made our day and possibly week. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality and incredible food. If things weren’t exceptional enough already, the female owner sent us home with half a loaf of her sourdough. She did not...
Read moreThis is truly a hidden gem in Colac’s Main Street. The atmosphere is nice and reflects its Lebanese heritage. The food here is incredible. The Macadamia gluten free Cheesecake is simply to die for! It was so fresh, so smooth and delicious, topped with a little white chocolate just for good measure. The lunch consisted of triangles with a reasonably finely chopped fresh salad consisting of tomato, parsley, herbs and finely sliced lamb, topped with house made garlic sauce, with the traditional spices. My goodness, the taste was just so refreshing and tasty on a hot day. The main thing I must recommend that people try out is the owners Chai latte. Being a Melbournite, I thought I was expert level in the chai tasting department. Not so as it turns out. The owner is the BEST chai latte maker on the planet. Super delicious and better balanced than any chai I have ever ordered between Colac, Melbourne, Copenhagen and San Francisco!! I ended up ordering three in total and I was actually sad to awake back in Melbourne the next day because it was such a long drive to get another chai latte and lunch from Future Cafe! I honestly recommend that anyone with discerning tastebuds visit Ashraf at this gorgeous gem of a cafe. Happy Chai latte day coming up for you lucky...
Read moreWe were passing through Colac and stopped here for lunch. The staff were super friendly and helpful and lunch was lovely. We shared a lamb focaccia which unfortunately didn't have a lot of lamb in it but LOTS of spinach which overpowered the taste, but aside from that it was yummy (once we pulled out the spinach). Coffee was great and the cafe was clean. The toilets needed some TLC but hey, at least they had toilets which was better than going to the public toilets on our little stop in Colac. We'd definitely stop here again when we're next passing through Colac but would maybe ask for less spinach and more lamb in the...
